I imagine it’d have to be, otherwise it’d be pretty hard to handle in slam fire mode.

"The shotgun is very heavy"

Oh, please - compared to what?

The M1897 Trench Gun loaded weighs 8.0 pounds. Springfield 1903 - 8.2 pounds, M1 Garand rifle 10.5 pounds loaded, BAR loaded - 19.5 pounds, the M16A2 loaded - 8.8 pounds.

Maybe you avoid the service if that weight is "too heavy".

I have one in 16g, one in 12g, both reworked. They are fun to shoot.

Hold the trigger while working the action, will slam fire five rounds as quick as you can work it.

I own one and would like to pass on a "KEY-FEATURE," of this Model.

You can keep your finger on the trigger, to keep it in the depressed / pulled position, and as I like to say; just rack them off, not missing a beat.

I have no way of knowing, but I'll beat dollar's to doughnut's, the barrels were cut down, not so much for weight, more to be able to handle in tight spaces / widths of a trench.
