Incorrect. 18 year olds are not “children”, and once they turn 18, they are no longer “here legally”.
Turning 18 doesn't invalidate their visas - they're still here legally. This is about whether they can work or not.

If your visa stipulates you can be here because you are a minor dependent of someone with a work visa, then yes, when you are no longer a minor, your visa is no longer valid, and if you stay, you are here illegally.
