It was willed to the government (town, county, state, I don’t know) so that the person or persons who put it up wouldn’t have to pay property taxes on it.

Cute. You actually think there is such a thing as private property? I know sometimes they give you a piece of paper so you can pretend it belongs to you, but not really.

I remember, back in the day, G. Gordon Liddy would tell the story of how he had to get permission from the government to remove a tree from "his property".
