Most of us can remember our favorite childhood popsicles, ice creams or even choc ices, whether they were dished out from the home freezer, bought from a shop or purchased from a tinkling ice cream van. While many popular varieties are still around for a nostalgic treat, others have been put on ice forever. Here are some of the best frozen treats that have been discontinued – and that we wish would make a comeback.

In the late 50s-early 60s, the Good Humor man used to have these things called ‘Rockets’, but not the same as the later ones. These were in a tube and sort of ‘push up’, with vanilla ice cream riddled with thick chocolate streams. They were very good.

Eskimo Pies were around for about a century before being “cancelled” for being “racist.”

Cake roll was another confection that I liked in the 1960’s. It consisted of a core of raspberry sherbet surrounded by vanilla ice cream with the surface consisting of nuts.

In the fifties and sixties, Currie's ice cream parlors could be found throughout Southern California. These featured "mile-high" cones in which the ice cream scoops were prolate spheroids (shaped like a banana) rather than spherical, like most scoops. I still remember their jingle:
Mile-high Currie's stores;
Mile-high ice cream cones;
Mile-high malts, double-thick;
Hurry to Currie's double-quick!

We have an ice cream van here, with the traditional music. Takes me back 60ish years. This town is 60 years back in a lot of ways. Teenagers here hold doors open for old people and call them Ma’am and Sir.

We don’t allow that kind of language here. Police yourself!

They might have to get rid of the name Klondike as it offends lesbian Eskimos.

We have one here. The guy plays Christmas music year round. (I think he’s foreign born, and doesn’t know...)
