“House of the Dragon” is already righting a “Game of Thrones” misstep.
The upcoming spinoff prequel series has a more racially diverse cast, including an elite Black family comprising the House of Velaryon, a central ruling family with deep political ties in Westeros.
Co-showrunners Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik set out for a “reimagining” of George R.R. Martin’s original books when bringing them to the screen. The spinoff premieres August 21.
“It was very important for Miguel and I to create a show that was not another bunch of white people on the screen,” Condal told Entertainment Weekly. “We wanted to find a way to put diversity in the show, but we didn’t want to do it in a way that felt like it was an afterthought or, worse, tokenism.”

Is this happening in Wakanda?
I liked the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, although I don’t care about watching it again, skipped The Hobbit, just was no interested. GOT I watched some of it but never really got into it or cared for it.
Hard Pass on these two series also. I somehow made it through The Wheel of Time but will pass on any future seasons I think.
Give me more of the Terminal List, Ipcress File, and Trigger Point seasons.
I had not heard Ipcress File was now a show. Anything like Len Deighton's book?
I saw the Hobbit in 48fps Atmos, was nice. Should’ve been just 2 movies certainly.
Grey Worm is a little puzzled by that.
There was a recent movie about Churchill, which has a scene with him riding the bus during WWII (which never happened), but they made a point to show a black couple on the bus.
I want to see a remake of Roots, with a white Kunta Kinte.
Or something based on Zulu mythology full of white, Asian, and Hispanic Zulus.
The better GoT prequel is the one that didn’t get picked up about The First Men and The Age of Heroes. Most of really interesting story threads were there.
“It was very important for Miguel John and I to create a show that was not another bunch of white black people on the screen,”
“where they have a bunch of Blacks in pre-Victorian Britain”
But, but, that show is supposed to represent an alternate universe. ;-)
Yes very well done, it’s on AMC+, the producers are Harry Saltzman’s kids, he was one of the original producers of the James Bond movies and did the Michael Caine Harry Palmer films.
I thought the Hobbit films were like 2 or 3 films.
Trigger Point is on the Peacock Channel, it is a great drama-thriller following the London Bomb Squad looking for a terrorist cell.
Ha! Maybe for the woke liberals.

So you added some tokens.
If it gets a reputation of being “woke”, then I’ll never watch a minute of it.
I actually took the opportunity to enjoy a series on AppleTV+ "Tehran" --an Israeli production, filmed in Hebrew, English, and Farsi, about an undoverver Mossad agent in Iran.
Absolutely excellent programming.
No black characters (and why would there be, in an Israeli-produced television show taking place in Iran).
It was refreshing and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
It's Amazon Prime that is forcing this, dictating a policy that everyone involved in any Amazon Prime film must abide by a rule that 40% of the entire filmmaking staff must be BIPOC/LGBTQ+ or whatever.
And everyone else is following suit.
This makes it next to impossible to make, say, a WWII film, unless you drop in a handful of totally unbelievable minority roles.
