There has been a lot of talk for the past year and a half about who the Republican Party should nominate for 2024: Donald Trump or Ron DeSantis. I explain in this video why Donald Trump is still the guy for 2024.

DeSantis is the power broker. He and Trump are partners in close contact— no matter what the bushies and rinos try to create.

Essential is to make the US more like FLORIDA on a State by State basis...per the 10th Amendment. Constitutional and so forth.

It's just weird. Presumably, those voters love Trump, and love America. And most of them also have said how great DeSantis is on the issues, but they just want to see Trump win in 2024.

But, they'd be willing to see some radical leftist take the Presidency in 2024 over DeSantis, simply because they wouldn't like the fact that DeSantis beat Trump in the primary. "You didn't pick the guy I like, so I'd just as soon see the country destroyed."

That's a lot.

Waste of time.

I agree, especially since I believe that most of the FReepers pushing the whole DeSantis thing are trolls.

It's not weird, it's easily explained.

Boiled down, the common complaint is "mean tweets" which means probably means a lot of people pushing DeSantis over Trump are nothing but Establishment plants.

On the Issues, and dealing with those involved with those issues, internal and external to our Country, Trump's approach is best.

DeSantis and Trump are the same on the actual Policy Issues.

So what you are left with are people who are easily offended about style.

Trump wins out.

DeSantis would make the Democrats move on, and his presidency would set Trump’s legacy, which would allow him and his family to begin to reap well-deserved rewards for his considerable service to our country.

Wishful thinking on your part my FRiend.

You truly do not understand today's Left.

The GOP primaries are still a couple of years away and the primary voters can tell us who the nominee should be. I’m fine with supporting either Trump or DeSantis as the nominee.

DeSantis seems like the clear front runner to be Trump’s VP in 2024.

The minute a Republican politician hangs it up to go do something else (if he leaves with his legacy intact and plenty of goodwill on his own side, unlike, say, Sessions), they all start kissing his ass, because its an opportunity to look bipartisan without actually having to be bipartisan.

Sure the true-believers on the Left will be upset, but they spend their lives not understanding that they are being used by the elites.

As long as Trump (as elder statesman) has Trump supporters, he has political capital, and any Democrat who wants to look bipartisan, will want to look bipartisan in the hopes of getting Independents to see his/her pragmatic side so that they will consider voting for him/her.

Trump’s age is my only worry. He would be 78 if elected in 2024 and 82 at the end of his term. He is definitely sharper than our current dotard.

I have to believe that the real number of such Trump groupies (or DeSantis groupies) would be vanishingly small.

Either way is great and I think Trump would make a great VP or President (again).

Either way he’d still be more than just your typical show piece arm whore VP as currently exists!

As a Floridian and a long time conservative, I will say simply that we are lucky Ron won in Florida. but it was a squeaker over the drug-addled demorat gillum. So far big D has delivered for Florida conservatives and we need him where he can do the most good...as Florida governor. IF he runs against Trump he will only be showing conservative voters he isn’t who we think he is. He would be considered just another narcissistic, opportunistic rino. There are already enough of those with far greater name recognition than Ron DeSantis nationwide and if HE joins them to try to stomp on D.Trump, he will lose every bit of the good will he has thus far earned with the conservative base. Simple fact of life.

I will say it comes down to who the D nominee is.

If it’s Newsom, then I think DeSantis is the better opponent.

Trump is a destroyer. He is at his best when tearing down things we don't like: the Clinton dynasty, Bush/RINOs, the Paris Treaty. etc.

He is a terrible team player and worse team builder.

Trump should run for Gov of FL and turn his formidable force against Freedom's absolute worst enemy - the US federal govt. Take back states' rights in glorious Trumpian fashion.

President Ron will help, he understands the 10th, has exec experience, is more likely to attract a solid supportive R team.

Ron would have a full 8 yrs in that role.

So could Don. He could be king of FL till he dies. A much more productive role for him. A much safer swamp, only gators and snakes. A friendly legislative branch. No US Senate involved in his appointments. He likes living there. Better golf courses.

Those two could have fun keeping each other in check, both could say: "Hey, dont't BS me, I've done your job before..."

For the first time in our lifetimes, we could incline toward fed/state devolution of power. If the egos involved don't prevent it. FL King Trump could, for example, demand feds out of education. A red wave and a DeSantis prez could help get that done. Finally.

DC is not a thing to be fixed, it is a thing to be destroyed - politically.

The uniquely American notion of small central govt and God-given individual rights... is nearly dead. The number one thing that concept needs for survival is stronger / bolder states. Who is stronger and bolder than Trump? A flamboyant, kick-ass gov could start an historic trend in that direction.

This should be done while the Supremes are finally helping out in this regard.

If Trump was gov and treated DC the way he treated the EU / WHO / UN... then we'd have some hope for real progress.
