When Mystrichrome was fresh and new, it was not an easy paint to get ahold of. If you owned a Mystichrome Cobra and got into an accident that required paint repair, you were in for a nasty surprise. Only certain body shops around the country could spray the paint, and to do so, a Ford representative had to be present. Not only that, but that Ford rep was responsible for bringing the paint, overseeing the work done, then re-sealing the can and bringing the leftover paint back with them.
...In Patterson’s video, he shows the cost of just 16 ounces of Mystichrome paint, which comes in at a whopping $3,335.27. That works out to over $26,600 per gallon. Keep in mind that that price figure is only for the paint...

On the wallet at times. I am not a paint and body guy plus I don’t have the capability where I am to anything besides use a spray can on small stuff.
Throw in welding and replacement sheet metal on a couple of occasions.

Used to be more than a few quick buck painters that used house paint on a hot summer day in direct sun.
Not too bad and you could spiff it up by rubbing it with de-scented kerosene. might last long enough to sell it?
That’s funny right there!
Grandfather drove it, not sell it.
ROTFLMAO!
Audi A8s are all aluminum. People have stripped the paint, buffed to high gloss, then clear coated them. Here’s an article about one:

Every Automotive Paint Guy I ever met were colorblind. Perfect for matching paint by shade not the color.
—” the green tint in the paint is the same ink used to make Money!”
A wayward friend was a graphic artist for a megacorp.
When bored they would run $5 bills through the copy machine then hand color some key parts and cash them in the change machine to verify their work.
"LOL that way you could tell, what kind of person steps put of,their vehicles, and whether you wish to engage them or not 😆"

A friend’s father straight from the old country used to paint the underside of his VW with the used drain oil!!!
He claimed it was in the older german owners’ manuals!!!
That reflected light color theory makes my brain hurt!
Easier to just call it a photoshop job!
All 2K automotive paints are (or can be) toxic if you don’t use PPE. They are polyurethane, and some people have a bad reaction to the isocyanates they contain.

Local gearhead legend has it that Ford built a few stainless cars? And supposedly illegal on the road in many states.

We had some very expensive equipment that was scratched!
OH MY!
I asked my friend the body shop guy, he recommended a local paint supplier... This very old guy takes my sample and asks a bunch of questions about the type of light bulbs...
We make a deal, he will mix a very small amount by eye if I do not accept it I have to pay for a quart mixed by the computer. I only need a few drops!
He recommended a brush and everything needed and if the shop was empty, hot to do the work.
For years I went to him for all my paint needs and gladly recommended him.
One day I returned, and they said he had been the owner for many years and passed away, that he was one of a kind, not many can do what he did.
