The 10th stage of the Tour de France was halted for 10 minutes on Tuesday after half a dozen climate activists tried to stop riders on the road before being pulled out by police and a senior organisers' official.

The activists, one of them wearing a t-shirt saying 'We have 989 days left', sat on the road some 36 kilometres (22 miles) from the finish in Megeve.

The activists were pulled off the road by police, helped by Tour organisers' Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) general director Yann Le Moenner.

Contacted by Reuters, ASO declined to comment.

Stage leader Alberto Bettiol rode through a cloud of pink from a flare before being asked by a race official to get off his bike just before organisers said the stage had been stopped.

Ten minutes later, race director Christian Prudhomme ordered racing to resume.

Humm. Bikes are enviornmentally friendly. If they really want to make a point, they should glue themselves to the track at LeMans durning a race and see how that works.

Weird how, officials, here I. States don’t drag protestors off, federal highways when they impede traffic and cause risks to health and prevent emergency vehicles from Getting through.

We have laws, but apparently, laws are only for law abiding citizens to obey

This is why they need a lead snowplow vehicle for the alps sections.

Maybe a few strokes of a cane would be appropriate punishment for this sort of thing. Done correctly it would be something the violators would remember for awhile.

Just think of all those bicycle riders peddling hard, exhaling all that CO2.

Next year the Tour de France should be done from home on Pelatons in the VR metaverse, riders with lye infused masks to scrub the CO2 from their breath.

Bicycles are green. These fruits should go run onto a Formula One track during a race.

I’m picturing bicycle riders with lances ...

Unfortunately, an image search primarily gets pictures of he-who-disgraced-himself.

Snowplow? Wouldn't you rather use one of these?

Nah. Too messy. Plus, think of the poor maintenance worker who has to clean it out. Nah, I'm thinking hit them at about 35 MPH with the blade aimed to fling them to the downhill slope.
