So how many warheads will that take?
So how many warheads will that take?

Things warhead-yield-wise have changed since the old Soviet days, but safe to say a lot of the 5,900 they have will be sufficient. So how many really doesn’t matter.
The Russians have about 9,000 nuke warheads. In addition, they have hyperbaric warheads that are nearly as devastating as a nuke without the radiation. They claim hypersonic delivery vehicles that can have the initial bursts occurring 90 to 200 seconds from launch. They also claim to have deployed 3 nuclear powered drones with onboard 300 MT weapons. One each stationed next to US east, US west and US gulf coasts. The whole lot gets deployed nearly simultaneously. The estimate is 259 million dead from the "prompt" effects. Additional deaths from plumes and lack of resources follow.
Ans: one.
With the current state of affairs, the markets - and currency would collapse before we even figured out who did it.
If rural America is wise, the only chance of survival would be cutting off egress from the cities. But America as a nation would cease to exist.
