Fairfax ain’t what it used to be, is it.
I expect the invasion has stretched out your way by now.
I was the same way about the young ladies. Fortunately there were plenty of hard bodied country girls that enjoyed helping a lonely farm boy pass the hot summer nights. 😇
The money thing never bothered me. Not like it did some people. I grew up on the family farm, worked it most of my life. When the wife and I both had health problems we had to sell. It wasn’t fun but had to be done.

It started changing when the Vietnam war began to wind down.

In the late 80s early 90s, my wife & I put a contract down on a house in Manassas, Va. My wife had been talking to some of her coworkers about it, and they all said have you seen the traffic coming from there in the morning? You may want to rethink that offer.

Well, we went out there the next morning and it was bumper to bumper traffic for the entire commute. That was somewhere close to 30 (+ or -) miles. They came back with a counter offer and that was our out.

I haven't lived there since 2004, when we moved down to Louisiana. Glad to be gone, to be quite honest. I love living in the country.
