Was Beldon on The Virginian for 25 episodes between 1963 and 1967.
THANKS!!
I think his character(L.Q. Jones) in the movie “Battle Cry” probably made the biggest impression of any movie character on me as a sub teen. He played a wise cracking, smart alec character and I really think Mr Jones was the first actor to give someone the finger in a movie. Classic! That made one hell of an impression on a 12 year old.
Barbara Carrea was so hot in that movie
LQ was a southern gentleman in every sense
His niece is a lifelong pal of mine although we haven’t spoken in years
She grew up in Lakeland Florida back when it was Dixie
And married a lad from Trion/Summerville GA by lookout mountain where they raised Simmental cattle at 18
She was a beautiful woman and her daddy after the Lykes family were huge timber and lumber people
LQ was close to them and never let his successful character actor career go to his head at all
She looked a lot like him with doe sino eyes and blonde with brown eyes
My favorite
Yeah I liked her obviously
It should be noted her insistence saved my life one rainy night under threatening circumstances in Chatooga County GA
Good DNA her and him
Agreed. He did a lot. I remember him as the county commissioner in Casino
Other than directing, he also did a bit part in A Boy And His Dog, that of a porn star (uncredited) in a movie within the movie. And he wrote much of the screenplay.
“Quirky” is an understatement. However the movie deserves a place in the pantheon of bizarre and unique 1970’s science fiction films.
Great, understated, role as Sylvus Hammon in Ride the High Country. I don’t think he spoke a word, but let his eyes do the talking.
Actually LQ Jones was not his real name that was the characters name he had in an early movie he was in back in the 50s He changed his name legally to LQ Jones
Definitely. A Boy and His Dog also has one of the best black comedy endings ever. For all its flaws it definitely has a lot of heart. It also doesn’t explain everything to the audience like more movies seem to do now.
Freegards
RIP.
Those scenes with him and Strother Martin in the Wild Bunch were classic! Pointing at a victims body “Look at the size of that hole, that’s from my gun!”
It wasn’t in good taste...
“I always picture him with Warren Oates.”
I always picture him with Strother Martin. RIP
I have always liked him in westerns. He could play a good guy or a bad guy who was likeable. He had a great run. RIP.
I remember that scene when it was first shown on TV back in the early 1960s! Surprised the censors did not cut it out!
Probably meant that it was hard to get noticed when in a scene with Strother.
Rest in peace.
I think only a sub or young teenage boy would see something like that. Which is probably how it got past the censors in the first place.
Very underrated movie by the way. Spoiled only by Tab Hunter’s & Dorothy Malone’s acting.
