To the editor: As a woman of a certain age, I have two stories to tell — one of an illegal abortion, the other legal.
Back in the 1960s, before birth control was easy to access, I became pregnant. The father was sent to Vietnam, and I was in college. I would rather have died than have the baby. If I could prove that I was insane, I could get an abortion. No luck. The psychiatrist said I was sane.
My brother helped me find an illegal abortionist and got the $600 together. We met the middleman in a coffee shop in Van Nuys. He made my brother stay and took me to a motel. He told me to put on a negligee while we waited for the abortionist. I refused.
Finally the doctor came. Thankfully he was very nice. He took me to the bedroom. With no painkillers, he did the deed. The pain was excruciating. The middleman paid him and took me back to the coffee shop, and my brother took me home. I needed follow-up care, but thankfully I was able to have a baby I wanted years later.
A marriage later, I became pregnant. Unfortunately, my birth control didn't work. We were very poor and couldn't afford another child. I made an appointment to have a legal abortion. I don't even remember what happened because it was so easy and painless.
Unfortunately, now women will be forced into seedy motels, if they can even find someone to do it, or be forced to travel to a state like California.
As for me, I have no regrets. I raised a wonderful son, went to graduate school and was happily married for more than 30 years.

How do the two aborted babies feel. Oh that’s right they are dead so that you could have a more pleasant life.
I wonder if these ‘true stories’ are AI generated, or just ginned up against a checklist in the Jane’s Revenge basement?
She murdered her first child because she was going to college and, I guess, wanted to put her career first. Then she murdered her third child because she was too poor to raise another one.
I guess the college thing didn’t work out so well.
“I became pregnant.”
It just happened.
“The psychiatrist said I was sane.”
Evidently, she got over it.
Shades of Stephen Glass. Liberal journalists are not beyond just inventing these kinds of stories. It’s all for the common good, don’t ya know.
It would have been more believable if it started, “It was a dark and stormy night. I was preparing to go to a college mixer to meet some guy named Kavanaugh. The 2nd time, the only thing I remember was peeing on the bed in the Lincoln Bedroom.”
Well there is a video on the link and all the women are as old as Methuselah so yea there is a good chance they are telling the truth.
I visit a website about paying for college. The mothers are preventing their kids from applying to colleges in red states because their grandchildren can’t be killed in the womb in those states. The amount of anger and hysteria is unbelievable.
Hey, don’t ask the hard questions!!!
Can you see them telling this to Jesus??!!!
Condoms were around in WW2 so I’m betting they were around in the 1960’s.
Didn’t learn from the first murder. Murdered again. Still a proud murderer.
This is such a fake story. She goes to a seedy motel and the doctor took her into “the bedroom”. How many cheap motel rooms have a bedroom? The red flags that this is fake are just too numerous to put in one post.
And she hired a “doctor” who met her in a motel room? Right. And she was told to put on a negligee. Give me a break.
Illegal slavery is a nastier business than legal slavery was, but you don’t hear anyone brainwashed enough to argue that legal slavery was a good thing.
And those mothers can’ tell their daughters to stay out of bed with guys and you won’t get pregnant in the first place. I would not have continued to support my daughters in school had they become pregnant short of being forcibly raped. They could have come home but their college aid would have been over. It were a case of choices.
I knew some that “went to stay with their aunt” for the summer. Mid 1960’s time frame.
Here’s the most important line in her story:
“Back in the 1960s, before birth control was easy to access”
Now there are so many birth control options, so much available information, so much access, free, cheap or paid by insurance, and near 100% social acceptance of having a baby out of wedlock.
SO MUCH HAS CHANGED SINCE THE 1960s.
Yet hysterical pro-abortion activists act like nothing has changed since 1973.
But isn’t it a wonderful thing that the red states will have less of the women students who think abortion is birth control? Let the blue states keep them.
Wife and I adopted two boys before Roe v. Wade. Neither was an easy task. Later on, we were able to have natural children - Seven more.
God has been good.
Those mothers are the ones who say all kids will have sex, if they’re not already. They’ll all drink and do drugs. Then the real permissive moms allow all of it the house to keep the kids ‘safe.’ And then, there’s a chorus of we need to teach boys not to rape, as if all boys are dragging coeds into the bushes every night on campus.
There is so much great info there, that it’s worth overlooking the loony loudmouths. The best part is their liberal kids won’t be infecting red state campuses as much. And that will leave more scholarship opportunities for sane kids. (Red states public colleges have more automatic scholarships using test scores and GPA’s than blue states. Many full tuition and some full rides.)
