Megan Kelly was interviewing former Gambino family underboss turned FBI informant Salvatore 'Sammy the Bull' Gravano when she shared with him the breaking news of Caan's death yesterday.
Gravano then claimed that Caan, 82, was connected to the mob and was present when the actor allegedly asked Colombo family boss Joe Colombo for permission to star as Sonny Corleone in The Godfather.
'He was in the mob,' Gravano told a confused Kelly. 'James Caan was in — was hooked in with the mob.'
'I was there when he came down and asked permission to be in that movie. I was there with Carmine Persico,' Gravano said, referencing another Colombo family boss allegedly present. 'Joe Colombo gave him the role. He was connected with the Colombo family.'
Despite Kelly's skepticism, Gravano doubled down and said that while Caan was not a made member of the mob - given that he was Jewish born from German immigrants - he was an associate of the Colombo family.

My cousin was the Mob undertaker. He would show a guy in a brand new suit but bury him an old one. He used the same suit all the time for show. My father used to take me to meet some of the mob bosses. I was only 10 at the time. One retired boss loved goldfish. Their bars were dark and scary, gave me the creeps.
too funny. i am surprised none of the mob guys picked up on it.
James Conn always came off as an arrogant dick With anger management problems. Never much cared for the guy.
When we went to college, if we had any trouble traveling (weather, etc.,missed connections)all we had to do was call a number.
My hometown had a small but distinctive Italian community. One of the older ladies recalled when her dad died, all these black Cadillacs from Chicago showed up for the funeral. The “company” made a deal with her dad, to help him immigrate from Italy, in exchange for some future favor that might or might not ever be called in. It never was, but they remembered him. That must have been a very interesting funeral dinner.
I remember reading that Lansky had met “Lucky” Luciano when they were both youngsters. Seems Lansky taught Luciano about earning and Luciano kept others from beating up the smaller Lansky.
Maybe true.... maybe not.
But Lansky DID know finances. Without Lansky Luciano would have never been able to modernize the mob.
That one was a very sad episode
Jewish? Yea so what?
Meyer Lansky was Jewis and he ran Vegas for the mob
There a different from being a made man in the mafia... and being a Mob associate ...
I don’t think Jimmy Hoffa was Italian either but he was definitely connected to the mob
You want to know a really odd Mob connection
Rose Marie of the old Dick Van Dyke show..
Her father was part of the Mob and she was connected to...as a little girl Al Capone was Uncle Al to her
She was the Vegas headliner for the opening of the mob owned The Flamingo on the strip
My grandfather was a “mob” doctor while he was doing his residency in Kansas City around 1930. He would get a call at the hospital that there was a gunshot victim that needed treatment and if he came to the location, he would be paid in cash for the work.
He made a good living for a while doing that. As long as he kept quiet, he got a lot of business.
Like Henry Hill, I guess.
Wow!
Elf?
Once Upon A Time in America
Again:
Once Upon a Time in America
Caan spoke glowingly of the Hoag-customized longslide .45 he used in “Thief”.
The Jewish mob was separate from the Sicilian mob
Wow yes. It is one of those things that you find out about your family members long after they were dead.
“Any insight to this story?”
as a 3rd gen Sicilian, why would you want to believe an effing Rat who backstabbed a mafia boss?
I not the least bit surprised. Already hated him for being an uber macho jerkoff, and this makes him even more unlikeable.
