In the good old pre-commie days you could get a “Rollex” for twenty bucks in the Hong Kong outdoor markets. The irony was that the “cheap” Japanese movements they used were actually top-notch.

My dad bought his Rolex at the Army PX in Yokohama in the 1950s. I still have it.
