Colleges, for that matter, do not teach useful skills unless you insist on taking them. Engineering and medicine are impossible to screw up, I hope. But liberal arts, law, poli sci, English lit, Forget it.
Agreed with one caveat. We’ve advised all of our 4 kids to get a BS instead of a BA in college and so far all have done so (Economics, Business, Computer Science BS degrees and one TBD).
But my 2nd son (conservative) with his BS in Business also opted for a minor in Philosophy. He says so far that field of study hasn’t gone “woke” even at Cal State where he studied.
