But I can’t shoot past 400 yards anyway. So that’s what makes his so hard.

I would not do the trade. You can buy the guide gun for less than your Marlin.

In the 3-400 yard range, a 150 grain .270 carries more energy than either a 150 grain bullet from a 30-06 or a 400 grain bullet from a 45-70. The 45-70 doesn’t reach the 1000 ft-lb mark that some use as a standard for a clean, humane kill.

Yeah, looking for a .357 lever gun myself.

Works great out of the guide gun...wish I still had mine.

These days, I consider 100 yds a long shot....

Even with these eyes I can shoot 3-400 yards lights out. But the 367 or the 45-70 will do that but the 45-70 will stop a elephant at that range. The 357 - not so much.

What you have now is more practical, I think.

“I love love having a pistol and carbine in the the same caliber. I’m going crazy over this one.”

I’m thinking that you will probably be able to get another .357 pistol and rifle, but finding a 45-70 with 1,000 rounds may not happen again.

Damn asking you all just brings up the same questions that are killing me - and you are all right. I may ask for an extra 400 bucks - otherwise I am leaning against it. But I will hate myself for letting that pistol get away. I can shoot that awesome.

Man, you are right. This decision is killing me.

But I can always earn more cash. That Marlin and Ruger will never come around again in my price range.

Accurately with a 45-70? I would almost pay to see that.

Fk it - I want that 45-70 so bad I can taste it. Damn the torpedos. I will probably regret it but I’m making the trade.

“Yeah, looking for a .357 lever gun myself.”

Have you noticed that some people call them, “leever guns,” or say, “leever action?”

I’d like one in 357 too, but guns make me nervous. /s

how much? I can shoot the 357 lights out at 250 yards iron sights +1 MOA. Give me a 4x scope with the 45-70 and I’ll take every dime you want to bet.

250 yards with the 357 iron sights is doable if the steel plate is big enough. What I want to see is the 45-70 at 400 yards with irons. I own my own shooting range out to 880. Where are you located?
