ohn Carpenter’s The Thing is a cult classic forty years after its initial release, and the discussion for it hasn’t died down as a new fan theory has come along to explain an oddity from the film and its prequel/sequel.
Throughout both the 1982 “original” and its 2011 follow-up, The Thing as an organism is incapable of communication outside of its human host. It’ll kill them mercilessly, feasting on paranoia as much as it does the flesh itself.
This fan theory from /u/Outrageous-Career-91 explains why it doesn’t communicate with humans.
(snip)
Essentially, the disgust and mistrust it has for mankind makes it fearful and unwilling to try and make peace with humans.

If it was disgusted by humanity, then why kill the dogs?
One of my favorites from the old days. Too bad it got cancelled before it got fleshed out.
It deserved a couple of extra seasons or a movie or two to wrap it up.
Prepping for the future Snake Pliskin...
Because,he’s a Toon.🤔
Beard too.😏
The husky pen scene freaked me out.
I saw the real “original” in the very early 50’s. I think the monster was played by James Arness before he wandered into Dodge City. Scared me to death.
I’ve been watching lots of movies about aliens taking over human bodies.
The original INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS.
The Puppet Masters.
The True story of Richard Levine...(OK, I made that one up.)
“If it was disgusted by humanity, then why kill the dogs?”
Good point.
Yes. James Arness was the Thing.
That was a scary movie.
