Long, slow and mostly dull movie that has some good parts. Director’s edition removing the voice overs made it unwatchable for me.

Yes, funny and groan-worthy. But it’s a spoof. So it is kind of meant to be. But the category I’m talking about is unintentional comedy. Comedy of errors.

I know of no other films on the level of Plan 9 and R.O.T.O.R.

Yep. B&W movie ~1950, with James Arness.

My dad and I walked a mile or so to the theater to see it one night when I was 7 y/o. When they opened the cabinet and something (dead dog) fell out, I jumped!

Took me several months to get over the movie. I couldn’t sleep if my closet door wasn’t fully closed. I had to always have something solid at my back when reading at night.

For a short while a company that ran polygraphs for various entities was across the hall from my lab. I stuck a picture of Holden giving Leon the Voight-Kampff test on my door with the caption “When you absolutely, positively have to be more human than human.”

Management was not amused.

“””Lately I’ve been watching a lot of pre-1950 films. Lots of good acting and writing even many of the “B” films out class the dreck being pushed out of Hollowwood today especially from the silent era.”””

Something I see in the old movies is how good the peripheral actors are, butlers and such, most actors seem to have had a lot of stage and formal acting training/experience back in the 30s and 40s.

Alas, I don’t have anyone at home. :-(

Yes you do. Tell them 'Cat lives don't matter' and see what love that gets you.

They Live is great. It’s a bit hokey, but awesome.

Bride of the Monster. Also by Ed Wood. Not as funny as Plan 9, though.

Any Hallmark movie... lol.

To clear up 'The Thing' spoken of here...not Biden's "You know - the thing" thing when he can't recall a thing. There's three movies so far. John W. Campbell's story "Who Goes There?" was first filmed in 1951 by Howard Hawkes. "The Thing From Another World" was an allegory to the Red Scare of the time (they were right). John Carpenter's 1982 version "The Thing" remains the gold standard of practical pre-CGI special effects carried by non-stop suspense. 2011's prequel "The Thing"'s flat acting and gross-out CGI was made by people who admired Carpenter's masterpiece while failing to understand what made it one.

Freeper 'dead' mentioned Terminator 2: Judgement Day, which truly has everything great sci-fi should, but it's director James Cameron has a twofer here with "Aliens". These films are good examples of the rare sequel surpassing it's original, though many consider "Alien" the better film. Different genres/different tastes.

"Blade Runner" may well be the greatest. The attention to details, cinematography, costumes, practical effects, set designs, daring lighting choices - all in mere service to the writing and excellent actors who drove it home.

Well, BR was certainly better than Alien3.

I (personally) consider Alien and Aliens to be two different genres of film. Alien is the classic monster-in-a-closet suspense/horror, while Aliens is just pure action flick.

Both awesome in their way, but very different.

I prefer Alien and Alien3 as I like the suspense type of movie .
