I encourage any and everyone to read and reread the article he wrote. Have your children read it.
This resonated with me. Parallels with my childhood and unlike his, also my adulthood. He grasped something while his life was looking forward while for me, it dawned while looking backward after I retired.
“How to think”. Simple words. This is exactly what I realized only after I retired and out of the go go go rat race of my career, the key points that are of significance to me and was able to realize what gave me insights, advantages, whatever it's called to jump to solutions, etc. that had escaped others.
“How to think”. This is the opposite of how virtually all of us are raised and educated. Looking backwards, quirks of my personality, upbringing and education accidentally triggered triggered the “How To Think”. Best I can describe is that for me, it is breaking problems into smaller bits until i can get to the root cause of an issue or at least solvable smaller pieces that can be addressed.
Another aspect of this is associating with and using the capabilities of persons smarter than you at something. Ego has no place. Pipe fitter or rocket scientist, take advantage of their expertise on something and respect their competence.
For me again, the persons that have gone through the formal education kind of paths and have the strongest “How To Think” capacity out of the box have advanced education in classical philosophy, theology and physics. These areas twist the brain in a certain way more than most things.
Another reason to be amazed at this young man.
I wonder what his plan for saving water was...planting trees in the desert, maybe for a start.
The world will miss him.
