“Florida Sailcats hurt like hell”
For anyone that might not know, this is a salt water fish.
Been salt water fishing my whole life. Saw my dad get hit on the back of the hand by one once...that was as close as I ever wanted to get.
I’ve always used a hook/ loop type deal fashioned out of a coat hanger....hook it around the line right at the fish’s mouth and flip away from your body....catfish comes off every time and you never have to handle that sucker.....I’ve never been finned...ever.

I’ve heard about the “flipper” thing but never tried it.
I always get a hardhead down on some flat surface, have an old piece denim pant leg, wad that up press down on fish real hard, use pliers to remove hook, then use pliers on lip of fish an toss back in water.
My wife and I were walking along the beach one night here near Destin and I stepped on a dead sailcat that some dumbass fisherman had discarded ON THE BEACH!.....
Went right thru my flip-flop and into my foot!
It hurt for a month or more.
Pulling it out was more painful than when I stepped on it!..................
