I live not far from where this happened and have hiked this trail a few times. We know there are gators everywhere. Some even show up at your door step, with the nearest body of water over a half mile away.

Gators are smart too.
When they hear that old diesel-rattling tractor come lumbering down the path to the bayou, they all line up near the bank like welfare candidates because they know there’s “something” about to be dumped in there from the front-end loader.
I’ve sat there and watched em devour a 400lb boar hog in less than five minutes. It becomes just a whirlpool of razor-sharp teeth and flapping tails.
Strong, vicious creatures they are.

Grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with a rock pit behind our house.

I’m sure that there were more than one gator in the pit but there was one that hung out where we all swam.

He, (or she🤔) would never bother us .. just hang out and watch us!

It would eat small and bigger than small dogs when it could grab them!🥴

Btw: Gator tail Does Not taste like chicken!!

It taste like swamp water unless you disguise the nasty taste with bbq sauce!😡
