It’s the second-highest income this week.
That means it’s a “hit”. Period. At least relatively speaking.
And if it keeps making c40 mil for the next few weeks that’s still a relative hit.
We’re comparing it to CONTEMPORARY FILMS THIS MONTH, not its predecessors in the series or other cartoons.
(Do not read this as defending the movie or any such thing. It’s just looking at reality. The best thing you can say is it is low compared to its predecessors - but that may be because no one is going to movies since the COVID hysteria, which has killed theater attendance more than Hulu itself did.)
It will make its money back, but it won’t spur sequels or a lot of merchandising. THAT is where the cash is these days.
I spent some time reading reviews last night. The interesting thing is very few of them mentioned the controversial things we read around this forum. What I was reading talked about the fact it was just boring.
The woke nature of movies will change as the revenues shift. The “show” part of the name is not long separated from “business.” And Top Gun shows people WILL return to the theater. Thor will show the same thing. Woke Juneteenth themed stuff won’t.
Tell that to the movie goers who made “Top Gun Maverick “ an all time record for a Tom Cruise movie. By far.
And an all time Memorial Day weekend record, despite covid.
Wanna try again?
In the second week of Jurassic World. Couldn't even beat Jurassic World in its second week. Not impressive. Ptetty pathetic.
