DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) -- At least 18 people have died as massive floods ravaged northeastern India and Bangladesh, leaving millions of homes underwater and severing transport links, authorities said Saturday.
In India's Assam state, at least nine people were killed in the floods and 2 million saw their homes submerged, according to the state disaster management agency.
Lightning in parts of neighboring Bangladesh meanwhile killed nine people on Friday.
Both countries have asked their militaries for help as more flooding looms with rains expected to continue over the weekend.
The Brahmaputra, one of Asia's largest rivers, breached its mud embankments, inundating 3,000 villages and croplands in 28 of Assam's 33 districts.

Ultimately, if the jet migrates north enough, India would have an all-year monsoon climate.
Sounds to me like they need some common sense flood control.
India and Bangladesh will “be changed FOREVER!” (a little “climate change scientist” lingo there). Somebody call Gretal The Miniature Swedish Meatball! The UN needs another “How Dare You” speech.
Here come da “refugees! Here come da “refugees”! Never let a good crisis go to waste. Use it as an excuse to invade the United States of America.

A little perspective on stock market losses this week.
How many will be murdered in Chicago, Philly, and Baltimore this weekend?
How many will lose their home/apartment due to inflation in the coming months?
We aren’t India, so I don’t care.
Some do care when 2 million people lose their home.
Good for you. Caring does nothing.
.
“Some do care when 2 million people lose their home.”
Did you care when millions of illegal alien Indians violated H1B visas and took the jobs of Americas with many losing their homes? Didn’t think so.
they need common sense birth control in India.

I believe their government has been astoundingly corrupt. No commonsense project could be undertaken because the funds would vanish before any substantive changes were made. Right now, there is no government and rioters, trying to improve their lot have burned the buses and trams. (Insert eye roll.) One of the ministers was murdered.
I’d think that India and other countries nearby should start supplying tents and food to keep people from flooding in an uncontrolled manner into Indian towns which are just across a small stretch of water. This is a situation China could exploit so if the Indians aren’t careful, they’ll have a Chinese naval base of their shores.
monsoon season happens every year
Maybe you and gator are right, maybe I should not care about anyone else. I will consider that.
And, while thinking on this, could Bangladesh give a definition of “home” structures?

it rained 1000 mm - 40 inches - in 24 hours. Imagine that as against when last year Germany was flooded by 2 inches of rain in half a day. This region is the wettest place on earth but nothing can cope with 40 inches of rain in a day.
The corrupt govt was booted out 8 years ago but it will take time to make anything in these lovely mountains against the grip of Chinese backed terrorists and environmentalists in the area.
And all this water drains into the plains of Bangladesh in a very short distance, flooding them.
No one cares what you think.
