GREENWALD: "Trump's failure to pardon Assange and Snowden was one of the worst and most cowardly mistakes he made"

@ggreenwald

Trump's failure to pardon Assange and Snowden was one of the worst and most cowardly mistakes he made. Few realize how close he was to doing it. He got scared by threats from GOP Senators that they'd vote for impeachment if he did it.

“but Greenwald minded his p’s and q’s and wasn’t calling Trump a coward”

Right, and Greenwald should not have said this, uncalled for and based not on fact but on an assumption. One thing Trump is not is a coward, ever. Tucker also takes oblique potshots at Trump too. Guess they both are trying to show off their Libertarian bonafides which irritates me; Tucker was threatening a Pub guest a day ago with 3rd party talk which is ridiculous if Tucker truly wants to save this Country from imminent doom. Carlson should shut his mouth and can such talk. Not smart nor wise.

“So, if you were extradited to China to be tried for criticizing the Chinese government, that would be OK?”

If the U.S. agreed to extradite you to China, yes.

Not a matter of right or wrong. If you are extradited to any country because you broke a law in that country, you will be prosecuted for that crime by that country when you arrive on their soil. The extraditing country of course must agree to the extradition, and from there on your goose is cooked.

You forget that he also pardoned Scooter Libby, Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Steve Bannon, and Roger Stone. The man was fighting for his job in the days, weeks, and months after the election. The Presidency was stolen from him. I think he had more on his mind than making sure certain people on your list were pardoned.

Snowden said he didn’t want to be pardoned by Trump. His TDS was so bad that he’d rather be an outlaw than be free courtesy of Trump.

You do not get to have your own facts. Snowden stole and leaked documents to a news source. That news sources was Julian Assange.

America dealt with Snowden, Assange is in a rolling hell. He did nothing illegal. He did nothing all journalists do, publish.

The problem is, America is run by a cabal who believe lying to their masters (We the People) is job number 1.

I agree, Assange should have been pardoned, plain and simple.

Did you forget that he only transited Hong Kong and intended to transit Moscow but was stranded by the US revocation of his passport? If it’s anyone’s fault, it’s the State Department’s.

He only was in Hong Kong for a few days and got stranded in Russia because of the actions of the US State Department. What other choice did he have but to apply for Russian asylum? Do you imagine it’s terribly hard to get political asylum in Russia? There is a standard, everyday process for it, just like other immigration in Russia it is very straightforward. It wouldn’t have required any special consideration (except for the sensitivity of his case).

Let’s consider Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin he felt that through his personal convictions he could not take orders from what he considered an unlawful president - Prez Zero. He stood his ground and suffered the consequences for it. Rightly or wrongly about his interpretation of Zero’s constitutionally he accepted the consequences.

Snowden in his opinion felt what he saw as a BAH employee was unlawful. So, his solution was to give documents to foreign powers - hostile powers. He claimed he did it as a form of protest. He then fled the country. Why didn’t he send them to the media like say NYT? Maybe even some other far left media outfit. There are plenty to choose from. They would have been happy to have them. Why didn’t he after releasing them to the media stand his ground, behave like Col. Lakin?

The answer is obvious!

If you are extradited to any country because you broke a law in that country...

And here is where you lost the argument.

Assange didn't break a law IN the US. He was IN Sweden.

He was not under US legal jurisdiction because, as you said, he wasn't IN the US.

You have to be under US legal jurisdiction at the time of the alleged crime to break US law.

Yea, I know a lot of people are mad at Assange and want to see him punished, but there is a bigger issue here.

Do we want to see American citizens who travel to Britain for business arrested and extradited to say China for tial because they broke a Chinese law while on American soil (like Criticizing the CCP, which is a crime in China)?

Under your legal theory that would be just fine.

Why not just extradite everyone on Free Republic who has criticized the CCP to China for trial? Would you favor that? You're saying legally it would be OK?

No nation should be able to have its laws enforced against foreign citizens residing in foreign countries. That includes the USA.

The USA doesn't get to rule people in other countries.

Assange conspired with Bradley Manning (now called Chelsea) to break into a US government computer and steal secret files. One does not need to be physically present to commit criminal hacking.

That is not what I was saying at all. You misconstrue, intentionally or otherwise. There has to be in the country where a request for extradition is requested, a willingness on the part of that country to go through with the extradition.

In most civilized countries who have extradition treaties whose terms were agreed upon, the above scenario would never occur as the request for extradition would be refused, and as we in this Country have done, by refusing to extradite for frivolous or political persecution matters. However, countries will extradite those who have committed acts criminal in nature, such as murder, rape, illegal financial shenanigans, espionage, etc. It happens all the time.

We don’t have extradition treaties with a lot of countries, rogue or hostile ones in particular. Therefore there would be no extraditions to debate. In the U.K. with whom we do have an extradition treaty, they have been debating whether to extradite Assange for a long time now, and only just now have agreed to extradite him to the U.S. because of his classified document release that affected many of our covert actions throughout the world. Our country was directly affected by Assange’s document dump in overtly dangerous ways to our troops and various agency personnel lives.

Obviously the U.K. agrees with our position regarding Assange by their willingness to extradite him to the U.S. You may not agree, but the countries of the U.K. and U.S. do. You can protest the decision but of course you will get nowhere. To some Assange is some kind of hero; to the majority of folks whose lives were affected by his actions, he is a villain. And never the twain shall meet.

I think we should extradite George Soros to Hungary who has an arrest warrant out for him.

“Snowden is no hero. He should be executed. He did devastating damage to our country by giving the CHICOMS and Russia the NSA’s entire bag of tricks. China has used those methods against us over and over again since then.”

Once again you have zero idea what the hell you’re talking about.
