Man arrested for leaving flowers on fiancee’s grave found guilty of littering
Washington Post ^ | June 11, 2022 | Timothy Bella

Posted on 06/13/2022 7:53:40 AM PDT by grundle

An Alabama man who planted flowers on the gravesite of his fiancee and was arrested at the direction of the woman’s disapproving father was found guilty of littering this week.

About a month after Winston “Winchester” Hagans got engaged, his fiancee, Hannah Ford, was killed in a three-car crash in January 2021 that shattered what was supposed to be the happiest time of their lives. To honor the 27-year-old, Hagans placed a planter box full of fresh flowers and photos of the two of them on her grave in Auburn, Ala.

But earlier this year, Hagans was arrested on a charge of criminal littering. City officials had reassured him that he could put the planter at Ford’s gravesite unless there was a complaint. Then he discovered that a complaint had been filed — by the Rev. Tom Ford, his fiancee’s father.

“The police don’t enforce the law unless the owner of the plot tries to do something about it,” Hagans told The Washington Post earlier this year, adding that his late fiancee’s father did not approve of their relationship.

Hagans was convicted Thursday on one count of criminal littering and ordered to pay about $300 in fines and court costs, the Opelika-Auburn News reported. The 32-year-old man was also given a suspended jail sentence of 30 days that will remain suspended as long as Hagans does not place any more flowers or planter boxes on his fiancee’s grave.

“When the law stops being a joke, we can start taking it seriously again. “

So should anyone follow any of the laws in place today? If not, what name do you post under on the Antifa web sites? If so, which ones should be followed and who decides that? Does each person cherry pick his personal favorites? Or does an all wise one like you decide that according to your feelings?

FAIL! I’M JUDGING HIM BY HIS WORDS AND ACTIONS.

You are projecting his words and actions according to the reasons you assign him. You may even be right, but you shouldn't be certain about it.

All day long, every single datly, we have to make judgements of people by what they DO AND SAY.

Yes we do, and for our own purposes, but this guy likely doesn't interact with any of us, and so guessing wrong about his intent will not come back to haunt us.

If I wanted to divine the man's intent, I would ask him, not project my thoughts onto his actions.

“Which you know nothing about. You also seem strangely concerned with thing that aren’t in the rules, which arent relevant to anything being discussed.”

I notice that you have found nothing incorrect in my posts and choose to make it personal instead.

I made a simple statement. That is NOT strangely concerned with. And it was relevant to the post I responded to.

You were arguing the law while being completely ignorant of the law.

Well firstly, we only have your assurances that you are quoting the relevant Alabama statute.

Secondly, I can assure you that the vast majority of the population is ignorant of precisely what the statute says until someone shows it to them.

Thirdly, what you've posted leaves wiggle room for alternate interpretations and it doesn't have to just mean what you are asserting.

Fourthly, there is a law written on our hearts, and we must all do what we think is right and proper even if man made law says otherwise.

The only way I can satisfy you is to post the entire code but you already said it would be too much trouble for you to searchnit all.

I'm actually enjoying this dodging you are doing rather than just posting the link you found. Why would I want to mess that up? :)

Are you guessing wrong when you called the preacher aputz and other derogatory names and will that come back to haunt you?

Don’t make the mistake of characterizing mild contempt as anger.

As you like. :)

I don’t respond when others responses do not logically follow the discussion.

Because it is a slanted hit piece on a Southern Christian preacher by a ultra-liberal media.

Maybe, but I don't see any larger goal for them in doing it. The political benefit to them is very close to nill. That's why I don't think this is their primary motivation. I think they want sensational stories, and if it hurts someone they don't like, so much the better.

You have called the preacher several derogatory names and other comments.

I may have said he was acting like an @$$, and that he wasn't acting like a Christian, beyond that, I don't recall calling him any derogatory names.

Of course you/me are not God and can not make perfect judgments, but to use that some silly excuse to make none is absurd.

“If I wanted to divine the man’s intent, I would ask him”

And you to talking to the person to confirm or refute as some type of surety of your judgement is equally absurd. Did anyone ever tell you people lie? Why yes they do. “Well mommy, why don’t you talk to that bad man and ask him if he is going to bad things?” What are you 8 years old?

LOL. You fell for this liberal hit piece and made no effort to find reality.

The reality is that the father and would be husband are fighting over grave decorations for someone who died and whom both of them loved very much.

*IF* it's a deliberate hit piece on a Southern preacher, it's a pretty low yield one. No big political issue going on right now that it relates directly to.

If I cite you doing so will you agree that we both call it a night on this issue?

The moral ones.

I think you and I agreed that there are moral laws and immoral laws.

The death of Christanity in America is not an issue with you?

Still making it about me? Is that the only tactic you know?

Nah, I'm pretty sure waiting so long that the boxes have rotted before making a stink about decorations that must have been there for months, is pretty much a putz type move.

I do hope the dear man can live with the anguish of being referred to as a "putz" if he should ever happen upon this thread.

He isn't you is he?
