Why does it feel like real fiscal conservatives are an endangered species?

Because it turned out 'fiscal conservatives' were nothing more than democrat/lites who wanted to spend 'SLOWER'.... and not even a lot slower. They became 'neverTrumpers and offer the party nothing.

I have always and only heard the term "fiscal conservative" mentioned in the context of someone who loudly proclaims: "I'm a fiscal conservative, but a social liberal!"

Unfortunately, almost anyone you buttonhole today will end up telling you that is what they are, after you've told them you are against open borders, for the Second Amendment, and for separate male/female restroom facilities.

Because everybody’s got their favorite project. So we’re all fiscal conservatives “except...”

I was under the impression that Congress, most importantly the House, that controls the money.

The President submits his budget/priorities and then Congress does its thing and the two sides are supposed to negotiate. Am I wrong?

When was the last time that has happened? It’s been one CR after another CR. Why? It’s the only way they could get their graft and kickbacks through.

Say what you want, the last person Congress wanted to negotiate with was Donald Trump. Damn near everything he did was public, with cameras. Congress would never want to be on camera negotiating for one of their pet projects or quid pro quo programs, while that guy is on the other side of the table.

Oh, you want $40,000,000,000 for this program? Please tell me how that helps the American people and the American economy.....They didn’t want that kind of sunlight.

So....

Was it the deficit under him?

OR

The Continuing Resolutions and Congress....they’re the ones that control the money.

The man asked for actual budgets from Day 1. He never got them. All it was, was Congress starting fires that only they could put out and then right around August/September, when the next years budget had to be negotiated and voted on, it was nothing but pure BS from them....”sign the CR or the country would shut down”.

And just like politicians do....local budgets messed up - we’re going to have to fire cops and fireman ... they never seem to mention librarians, street workers, or any other staff types that can be fired. They never let anyone look at the books. It’s always..increased costs.

You became aggressively contentious for no reason. A whole lot of words doesn’t change the fact you called a stranger a fool.

Hope you are good and young.

🤣 are you senile?? Do you not remember what your first post was?
How you going to act all butthurt when your first post towards me was name calling nonsense.

No growth that amounts from a 500% increase in the deficit is sustainable.

That is my biggest issue with trump, he had three years before COVID to work on a creating sustainable economy, but instead he prioritized exploding the deficit in return for unsustainable flashy surface level gains to impress the idiots and enrich the oligarchs.

And of course the democrats and Biden are going to also do the same stupid shit but that is expected. Republicans had a chance to correct the economic course of the nation in 2016 and blew it.

Trumps spending put even Obama to shame! Even before COVID hit he was the all time worse president for the deficit. We had a chance to course correct the economy in 2016 and create some that is actually sustainable and blew it.

No, sharp. Just one of the flaws common to most folks at any age or station, it seems.

Nonetheless, you are right. I insulted you. I shouldn’t have. You didn’t deserve my crap.I appreciate you called me on it. I’ll try my best to not be a dope in the future.

Re: Topic. I get the many years of spending, printing, deficit, and debt all but assure economic calamity on a global scale.

I’ve still see from a different perspective.. but I’m in a contrite position, time for me to be quiet.

Hope your day is good.

Perhaps. I'd say I'm a fiscal conservative, but just plain antisocial. :P

I honestly don't care about hot button social topics. I feel that politicians use that stuff to distract us from what matters.

Wow it’s rare to ever see someone online who doesn’t double down on personal attacks. I appreciate that. I try to not name call or hurl insults unless it’s in response to someone insulting me first, and even then it’s just a waste of time. Hope you have a great day.

I had a lot of hope trump would at least attempt to course correct the economy in 2016 and was left disappointed.

I’m not “saying” anything per se as an opinion here, these are just the facts. What’s the 10% you disagree?

And when Ryan was Speaker during Trump’s first two years it was as bad as having Pelosi in charge.

When this country crashes in a fiery ball and is vaporized, suddenly there will be real fiscal conservatives everywhere.

Cataclysmic destruction really focuses the mind.

Yes, but we are beyond saving this nation’s finances. Get yourself situated and forget about anything else. It is a done deal and you need to weather the storm that is here and only going to get far worse.

“They never existed. Welcome to FR.”

Sure, they did. We called for balanced budgets for years including defense cuts. We still do, but it is now hopeless. time to buckle in and save yourself by any means necessary.

Just look at the cons who supported every gop pres for years or nomination. The last dudes to run on cuts and balancing the budget, was Perot and Ron Paul. They were attacked and attacked. The fiscal cons are no more. The cult of tax cuts and growth is the chant. The gop elected trump who promised no cuts to ss and medicare. The fiscal insanity continues.
