Trump’s Right of First Refusal Isn’t Enough

While Trump has earned the right of first refusal giving him the right of first look, he should not have an unchallenged right of return unless he can persuade us that he learned something from his first time around and will behave differently next time.

When will Donald Trump account for his colossal missteps and acts of omission during his first term? To wit, in case you weren’t paying attention:

This is a good read. Any of our regulars post it yet?

We gotta use our heads. We never do. Trump will continue to have problems with suburban women. How many of your wives remember $hit you did long ago? A good plug for DeSantis. The good senators won't work. Executive governors work best. Can Trump lighten up? Too many here prefer the ogre to our enemies.

The author listed 15+ things he didn’t do. He lost me when Trump should have formally recognized Taiwan. That would have been stupid.

He needs to lighten up. Too much anger over election cheating makes it all about him.
He’ll be 78. Overseeing the movement would be the best followup to his policies.

I like Trump…a lot.

However his time is past, he was cheated (1 way or another out of the election) and it’s over. You are right about the women and let’s face it he will be too old.

Despite what some of his supporters here say, age DOES make a difference and he will be ..what? Almost 78 in 2024? That is too old.

Desantis is the ticket.

Moreover, Trump’s tiresome tirades about his re-election having been stolen -- while true enough -- get in the way of the more important message for 2024: how he will fix in 2024 all of what the Democrats have destroyed since January 2020. This is not to say election integrity isn’t a big deal, but Trump can’t do anything about it now

This line tells me the writer doesn't understand the subject or is being disingenuous. Trump's "tiresome tirades" are the very reason there is still focus on election fraud, and because of that focus something might possibly be done about it.

Lol!, this guy who never ran for anything, is giving Trump marching orders, as for suburban women, I think they will take mean tweets over $6 gas.

Why did you omit Geoffrey P. Hunt as the author of this piece?

Trump won in 2020 by a lot. He received 74 million votes as a sitting President, the most ever. He received 11 million more votes in 2020 than he received in 2016. No sitting President who has increased his vote total has lost re-election. Trump won 18 of the 19 bellwether counties and still “lost.”

Trump’s America First movement has resurrected and expanded a dying political party. You don’t discard the leader and face of the movement. Now is the time to unify behind Trump.

The NeverTrumpers will never stop trying to remove him because he is a threat to the Uniparty and the GOPe. Trump’s endorsement is eagerly sought. It is the gold standard for Rep voters. You look to the future by nominating an America First VP candidate.

“When will Donald Trump account for his colossal missteps and acts of omission during his first term?“

Until he gets full and complete credit for the good things he accomplished, has his full reputatation restored, the people who perpetrated the slander and fraud against him are punished, and the ones who illegally fostered election fraud that robbed him of a legitimate second term are sent to jail, he doesn’t owe squat to anyone.

Much as I love Trump, the article says out loud what we here to admit: Trump had the right ideas, was the we craved, and set the Democrats hair on fire every day - but he turned out to be an ineffective executive. Partly because the deep state, all democrats, and a majority of his own party fought him at every turn and partly because of his own inept hiring choices who seldom heard the phrase he made famous - “You’re fired!”.

The strongest supporter of MAGA and the trump agenda whose name is not Donald Trump would remove most of the arrows from the democrat quiver in 2024. Trump as promoter, spokesman, and kingmaker may be the better role for him.

A good plug for DeSantis.

I agree Trump screwed up time and time again - mainly, I think, due to trusting the wrong people.

But DeSantis has not yet had the full court press anal exam by the Democrat's attack dog, the MSM.

Who knows what video, audio or writings would turn up from his past that they will capitalize on to affect one group of voters or another?

I say Trump is a known quantity and if he's learned from his mistakes and is more careful next go-around, plus if he were to actually have a supportive congress, he could do a much better job.

That said - would I wish on anyone the job or digging us out of the hole Biden has put us in? Dunno...

Yes when it hurts their pocketbooks, they will get over the mean tweets.

The only people who want Trump to stop talking about voter fraud are those who want it to continue.

Eagerly sought? Darn right. Look at how easy he’s got it. He’s resting at home, they all fly to Florida hat in hand. He’s most effective calling the shots from his captain’s chair. As POTUS he’d get distracted over stupid stuff. Let someone else fire Fauchi/Wray.

You post is as one sided as the Jan 6th committee. You weigh EVERYTHING HE DID GET DONE, then subtract out what he didn’t do for the net score. I know of no one who could have gotten as much accomplished with the gale force winds against him.

Actually I think it would be better if we had another candidate to implement MAGA. Trump is right about the RINOs and Dems and the entrenched bureaucracy caring more for themselves than the country but he isn’t going to turn that herd by himself. More likely get stamped again. Of course any Republican who wins is going to be vilified solely because he/ she is a Republican. I don’t see an Eisenhower of Reagan coming forward. Desantis is about as close as we got. I am in Texas and Abbot needs to retire. Ted Cruz would be great but better on the SCOTS I think. So if not DJT who? And please don’t give me Nikki Haley.

Whether or not Trump is our nominee, he has changed the Republican Party and, potentially, the country. We are now a populist conservative party, and able to appeal to minorities. Trump’s larger than life personality cut through the Democrat identity politics. The other party has also been changed by Trump, by reason of Trump derangement syndrome. It is now a radical elitist party, out of touch with the American people and hell bent on attacking everything American, everything Christian, everything normal. They think they own minorities and can simply add those voters to their radical new left voters. But, by breaking through to minorities, Trump has utterly destroyed their playbook. If our nominee isn’t Trump, can he or she be like Trump in appealing to working class whites and to minorities? We can’t assume that we can, by discarding Trump, eliminate his problems and retain his political strengths. Maybe DeSantis is Son of Trump. Maybe not. Let’s see.

That is only if gas is still only 6 dollars a year from now. I filled up yesterday at 6.04 and because my wife was about to fill up at 6.54 and I stopped her; I mused that who would have thought we would ever consider 6.04 a bargain.

I have two general problems with DeSantis that don’t mean I’m bad-mouthing him:

1. He is an establishment Republican. He will generate no enthusiasm among politically disconnected voters the way Trump did.

2. If anything, he’s LESS electable than Trump. Which states did Romney lose in 2012 that DeSantis will win in 2024?
