Why does the Millennial generation (people born between 1982-1996) have lower marriage and birth rates than previous generations? And when Millennials do get married, why is it at a later age than previous generations? Prominent periodicals like The Atlantic, Time, Washington Post and others have published articles trying to explain the phenomenon.
Some claim that the cause is economic – we graduated from college into the 2008 Recession, we have a lot of student loan debt, and we receive stagnant wages as housing prices soar. Financial difficulty prevents young people from getting married. This is of course part of the problem, but it is wrong. People got married at a higher per capita rate during the Great Depression and the brutal wars in history, which were much tougher than anything we endured.
Some argue that the cause is increased education, feminism and careerism. People want to focus on establishing a stable career in their youth, including women in equal if not greater numbers than men, which makes them delay family formation. This is also a partial explanation. There is no reason a person cannot pursue education and career while married. If the issue is about focus, we would argue that living “the single life” is even more of a distraction from schoolwork. Even if we concede the argument about focus, it still does not explain the large number of Millennials who are now in their late 30s, well-established in their careers, but still remain unmarried.

>>>>That graphic was somewhat true in the 80s/90s. I’d say, sadly and with repentance in mind, EVERYone got at least a few lines between them. The alphas and sluts had a lot more than others. And one of the lines would become a marriage.<<<<
ReaganGeneration2, you are right, as it turns out, and it is still that way. I’ve seen that graphic on FR lots of times, but this time decided to check out its accuracy.

Between my two “parents” there were 8 spouses, 4 each. (Before I was 25) I survived...2nd marriage into latter part of 3rd decade. What is necessary is COMMITTMENT..and both parties being decent human beings and willing to make sacrifices. Learning from and admitting to mistakes helps. All that is difficult with people who are “spoiled brats” and totally focused on themselves, qhich unfirtunately descrubes majority of millenials..
“Why are so many Millennials unmarried?”
Because its hard to meet other people when living in mommy’s or daddy’s basement.
After I quit corporate work in my 40s (hated it)...my hub would kiss me goodbye in the morning and say “Going to win the bread” (I helped him more in his career as a nonworking spouse, by making his life easier.)
LOL, based on your extensive experience as a man? I’ve been a man my whole life, and you know diddly-squat about it!
Oh, and by the way, tell me how many females make their money by prostituting themselves versus how many male prostitutes make their money sleeping only with women, and those numbers alone will tell you how ignorant your “BS” comment is.
It is very difficult to know what to make of statistics like that about human behavior—since they are dependent of what humans choose to report about their behavior.
There is also a lot of nuance that the chart does not address with the “sex/no sex” as the only outcomes they are measuring.
For just one example, the higher number of reported grad student male incels may be caused by grad student males being more likely to tell the truth, or more likely to lie—no way to know. Likewise the trends could be affected by willingness to tell the truth or lie over time rather than an actual reflection of human behavior.
I have no answers on how to figure this stuff out—human behavior is much more difficult to measure and understand than most “experts” think it is.
Marriage is over. Society is over. Freedom is done. There is no benefit to marriage, especially for men. This institution must be shut down by non-participation. It’s popcorn time, enjoy the show - final decline of the West. There isn’t much worth saving.
Of course do as I say and not as I do. Men and women aren’t equal and aren’t under the same standards. Duh. A woman is pursued, seduced, penetrated and gets pregnant. Men do not. A woman is 100x more sexually vulnerable. Stop trying to act like men, you have neither the physical nor mental nor emotional strength for it. Be women. Stop acting like men.
Correct.
Women are most valuable in the marketplace between 20 and 28 years old, because their attractiveness is determined by their apparent fertility. To those who feel this is unfair, your beef is with nature, not with me.
Men are most valuable in the marketplace much later in life, after they have attained financial prowess.
Such is life.
A lot of these kids grew up with divorced parents and were tainted towards marriage at a young age.
At which point their attractiveness to men decreases.
None of this is a problem for men and women of faith.

A lock that can be opened by many keys is considered worthless and replaced quickly.

Hey, that’s pretty good. Where’d you get that?
That’s quite a Petri dish.
So the study basically says that the Pareto Distribution as an explanation for "incel-hood" is nonsense but then immediately goes on to admit that 20% of the top men do indeed account for 60% of the partnerings - which is nearly the same thing.
Also, if you read between the lines, the study's findings indicate that the top 20% of men not only have more sex (higher frequency) - they also have even more different partners. I.e., more "variety."
Finally, the study strictly defines "incels" as 100% male virgins - so some 29-year-old who once, ages ago, had a single, furtive "experience" wouldn't qualify as an incel. An unnaturally stringent definition skewing all the findings!
Finally-finally: The study apparently didn't differentiate between hetero- and homosexual men. It namely referred to "men who had purchased sex as well as men who sold their sexual services." That can only mean: "Midnight Cowboys" and Punks.
The article attempts to debunk the "incel myth," but actually winds up corroborating many points of the "incel" argument!
Regards,
LOL!
Back when I was a youngster, I learned that there is an endless supply of stupid women.
You understand that your "3rd decade" would be when you were in your twenties, right?
Thus, are you saying that you had already gotten married, divorced, and re-married by the time your 30th birthday rolled around?!
Sounds like you were actually quite damaged by your parents... inconstancy.
