3 Biggest Self-Defense Myths: Busted
Good video. And the narrators get right to the point.
1. Don’t drag the body inside after shooting them outside.
2. Don’t use wasp spray as a replacement for pepper spray.
3. Don’t say “I was in fear for my life”. Use something more original like “ I knew I was gonna die”.
Three ridiculous myths .
> Don’t use wasp spray as a replacement for pepper spray. <
Yep. Some folks advise using wasp spray or bear spray. I never quite understood that. Most of those products have a warning in the side saying it’s against the law to use in a manner not intended.
So why risk getting arrested or sued? Plus quality pepper spray is available in every state. Fox and Sabre are good brands. Avoid the junk sold in store checkout lines.
In hindsight, I could see how today’s generation might think these things.
I just keep a Ruger 380 on me at all times.
Sabre red with UV dye marker so you identify the bastard later.
CC
“Don’t use wasp spray...”
I use Safer brand wasp spray.
The mint oil in it kills wasps but is safe for humans...
I don’t have bear spray but I do have a new bear-proof garbage can...
Why? Because you can. Anything bigger you'll leave it behind most of the time.
4. Fire both barrels straight up in the air.
Well, I’m in a wheelchair and I have a “fanny pack” type of bag that hangs down in front. Keep my wallet, keys and pistol (among other things) in it.
So its handy and I don’t worry about leaving it or forgetting it.
My Ruger LC9sPro fits my pocket about as well as my .380 lcp . They’re both good to have but if you want 9mm (to punch out a lung I guess) the LC9sPro won’t take up much more room
I was told the Sig 365 is the same size in 9mm and .380.
In your home…….Whatever you can reach in an emergency. Be it wasp spray, that big kitchen knife or your trusty 44.
We have a castle doctrine in my state so #1 and 3 really don’t apply.
You can protect yourself to your property line and fearing bodily harm is enough to use your firearm.
Also, myth #4.....hearing the racking of a shotgun is a deterant......I doubt it.
I fully agree with #’s 1 and 2. But three, what difference does it make how one phrases being in fear for their life? It does not, as the evidence should support the intent of bodily harm. If it does not, it does not matter what you say.
“1. Don’t drag the body inside after shooting them outside.”
Always follow the 3S rule. “Shoot, Shovel and Shut up.”
Because the cops will hear that phrase "I feared for my life" and pass that along to the DA, who will discount it as a fake claim.
YMMV
When it comes to interaction with the police, you can say whatever you want - but I'd prefer to go along with a lawyer's advice.
Use wasp spray, and you can rest assured, the crook and/or his family's attorney will sue you for personal harm to the assailant. Will you win? Probably. Will cost you about $10,000 to defend yourself.
So you have a Tank thing going.../h
