Over the past two centuries its magnetic strength has taken a nosedive, and nobody has the foggiest idea why.
At the same time, a concerning soft-spot in the field called the South Atlantic Anomaly has blistered over the Atlantic ocean, and has already proven problematic for delicate circuitry on orbital satellites.
Both of these troubling observations fuel concerns that we might be seeing signs of an imminent reconfiguration that would turn the compass points all topsy-turvy in what's known as a magnetic pole reversal.
But researchers behind a new investigation modelling the planet's magnetic field in the recent past warn that we shouldn't be too hasty in assuming that's going to happen.
"Based on similarities with the recreated anomalies, we predict that the South Atlantic Anomaly will probably disappear within the next 300 years, and that Earth is not heading towards a polarity reversal," says geologist Andreas Nilsson from Lund University in Sweden.

This is worrisome to me. Scientists have about as much credibility as lawyers, Biden, and the WHO & CDC. When it happens I wonder if my watch will run backwards?
It was good “science” news article fodder for 4+ decades, and these science puds ruin our doom and gloom pedaling said the press. There were another 10k articles about how the solar wind will melt your face off and make your man sterile.

If you wear an analog wrist watch set its time as if 3:15 were 12:00. If looked at like that only you will know the true time.
A tip from my days as a real life James Bond.
They have no clue, so they could be right that we are not in a polar magnetic reversal. All we know for certain is that magnetic north is currently racing away from Canada and toward Siberia.
FWIW, I think the sudden climate change we are seeing in the past couple of decades may well be driven by this rapid relocation of magnetic North. I believe it would have a much larger impact on the earth’s air and ocean currents than a little bit of C02 would have.
But will they trans?

I used to use a magnet on the old style tv sets when I was a kid to see the rainbow colors that would appear. I bet if I point the magnet at the north pole I can correct any drift : )
I’m going to make a bold prediction about this subject. If the poles flip tomorrow, we will still have a babbling idiot in the White House. Betcha!
