I am old enough to remember when Pride was a parade. Activists lobbying for marriage equality organized the day-long events in cities around the nation. I attended out of curiosity and a “live and let live” approach to marriage equality as a young adult, and I was sometimes shocked by the flamboyance and blatant sexualized behavior at the events. Gradually the parades turned into festivals that went on for a weekend or a week. You may have thought once the Obergefell decision legalized marriage equality nationwide, the Pride parades would go the way of the civil rights marches of the 1960s. You would be wrong.
Now we have Pride Month. It requires that every corporate logo must change to display a modified rainbow flag that keeps adding colors for new “oppressed” groups. Sports teams, entertainment companies, singers, news outlets, and society in general must celebrate the month by engaging with events, content, and symbolism to applaud a movement increasingly made up of an authoritarian fringe. They function as the clerisy of a secular religion that offers no means for redemption.
The first week of Pride Month made me recall a scene from the show Seinfeld. Kramer participates in an AIDS walk in one episode but declines to wear a red ribbon. A mob descends on him to demand compliance with wearing the appropriate symbol. “This is America! I don’t have to wear anything I don’t want to wear!” yells Kramer. The crowd physically attacks him.
It is only June 7, but you will be made to conform should you dare to commit the heresy of not celebrating Pride Month. It is not enough to mind your own business and adopt the live-and-let-live attitude that allows us to dwell together in a large, diverse nation.

I thought of the Seinfeld episode the second I heard about the Tampa Bay Rays. I mean, if the team wanted to put the American flag on the uniform, and a few people opted out, they would be celebrated for their thoughtful woke objection to doing so. (Think Colin Kaepernick), but if you don’t want to wear the gay flag, you are some sort of bigot.
Pride is one of the seven deadly sins.
In fact, I believe it is regarded as the worst of the seven, the source from which the other six spring.
I don’t understand what is there about homos that they’re proud of?
Their distinguishing feature is that guys like to take it up their butt.
Is that the “achievement” they’re proud of and that the rest of us should coerced to celebrate?
Really, when you boil it down to its essence isn’t that what we’re talking about?
Was backstage at one of his shows in the early 80s. What delivery he had.
I think there was an episode where Jerry was misidentified as being gay and went through ridiculous high jinks to disavow the notion. Today, an episode centered around a character desperately trying to prove that he isn’t gay would be met with endless accusations of homophobia —You should be FLATTERED to be perceived as gay!
In case nobody remembers, PRIDE is a vice and sin, PERIOD, no matter what in!
See, how the slippery slope works? Forget that Pride is bad, and the next thing you know, we have pride in perversity pushed down our throats.
This is why you should not pitch your tent toward Sodom.
George: “It doesn’t help.”
1st they wanted acceptance
Then they demanded promotion
Now they are making forced participation a requirement
Yes…that episode had several story lines but it had the quote we’re discussing.
I never saw the lead-in before! 🤣
Seinfeld and Monty Python had our era pegged, decades ago.
“We’re all the gays that went to the events over the top and disgusting? No. Many were just normal folks that were there to hang out.“
So your definition of normal encompasses people who go to depraved displays to just hang out?
I was just talking about this ribbon episode and how it reminded me of the pride crap going on. I relate my daily life to Seinfeld episodes...
Not sure how you get that
What I said was that there were many ‘normal’ folks there.
While at the same time there were many that used the occasion to put on display every bit of their depravity.
Some pretty raunchy stuff went on. And you couldn’t say to do anything because you’d be a homophobe if you did.
All the people that deified Seinfeld and still do, don't even realize the joke is on you. He is laughing at you for being rube suckers.
What I said was that there were many ‘normal’ folks there.
I guess it’s just me then, but for me normal people wouldn’t be present watching at such a thing.
