Your opinion is sane and rational. Will never work.

Do you not know how profiling works? Basically you identify the characteristics of mass murderers and look for people who fit the profile.

I'm familiar with the concept. So explain how your profiling would have prevented Uvalde and Buffalo. Who profiles? What triggers it? Who decides the penalty?

The problem with "...identifying potential threats..." in government run schools is government is would be the one determining what a "potential threat" is. It'd be like having Richard Scrushy or Bernie Maddoff be the one to determine who the accounting frauds are.

Everyone on FR would be rounded up day 1.

So my plan isn’t perfect. None is. You want to come up with a better one or just complain that mine isn’t perfect?

You claim to have a plan and have absolutely no idea how to implement it. And you get mad when people ask for details. You should be in Congress. Useless ideas are much in demand there these days.

I know how it would be implemented, but you are just a troll, so I do not answer you.

BTW, all 50 states have laws that allow a court to involuntarily commit a person deemed by a court to be a danger to themselves and others. This also allows the court to seize firearms from those same individuals. The difference between those laws and red flag laws is that the require that the individual be able to face his/her accuser in front of a judge with a lawyer representing them and a mental health professional to testify. So we already have so-called red flag laws.

Who submits the person for commitment?

That would be the court’s decision based on the testimony of the accused and the mental health professional. But at least it is due process. And according to settled law, there must be a compelling reason to deny someone their rights.

Something needs to trigger the mental health exam. Do we depend on the shooter himself or his family? The track record on that is extremely poor. Outsiders? What gives them the authority? Who provides these exams? Who pays for it? At what level is it OK to take someone's rights away? It's a solution that sounds great in theory but had too many questions that need to be answered if it is to be implemented.

No plan is perfect. Will some slip through the cracks? Yes. Will enforcing the laws on the books help? Absolutely.
