WW2. Kamikaze fighter planes had landing gear. Problem is it came off as the planes took off and became airborne. A runner fella ran out, picked them up and put them on the next plane. Didn’t tell them what was going on.
Appears they need to crash land on a shallow body of water. Have one of those cable grabber hooks like they do on carriers.

Well the runways are on a reef there, so the water is right there.
They don’t need the water. It’s just there bc of rain.
The word you are looking for is “tail hook”. Pretty much all USA fighters have them just for this purpose, even if not carrier based.

That doesn’t sound right about the kamikaze planes. Why would the Japanese bother to modify the landing gear, and how could the pilots not know what was going on?
The German Me 163 rocket plane actually did jettison its wheels when it took off, and landed on a skid.
