In Wa state, the most petty of shop lifting crimes are done with guns these days. A guy stole $50 of underwear at a Penny’s the other day...gun drawn.

When I lived in LA I worked late and would often grocery shop at 10 or 11pm. There was always people around and the parking lots were well lit - I was never scared. Glad I’m not there any longer. Granted, I didn’t shop at 3 in the morning, but I would have felt safe at that time as well.

I did the graveyard shift at a major New England defunct chain for 2 years. To say you see some crazy stuff is an understatement. One night, me and the night manager just put up a display and soon enough this guy who was drunk came in (we were 24hours as most of our chain was) rammed his carriage into our display. We had sex in the restrooms and yes, we did have our share of undocumented shoppers (shoplifters). We weren’t going to be killed for food.
