The important question is, what do we do about it? To put the blame on guns and gun laws is to disregard the fact that hundreds of millions of people own guns without using them in an irresponsible way. Beyond the necessary checks to ensure that violent and dangerous people are not buying a gun (which is already in place with federal background checks), the focus on mass shootings should be on the possible shooter. Two researchers wrote a book, The Violence Project: How to Stop a Mass Shooting Epidemic that address this is a way that does not put the blame on guns.

Question? Matt? A lot of people in Uvalde knew this kid and knew he was unstable. How will more mandated background checks solve a problem when the local police and school officials can’t be bothered to follow up on credible threats?
