Donald Trump weighs a big bet in Alabama Senate race
POLITICO ^ | June 5 | POLITICO

Mo Brooks created a stir among conservative commentators this week after sparring with a Fox News host who told viewers that there was no evidence of widespread election fraud in 2020.

“That’s wrong,” the congressman said emphatically, talking over Sandra Smith as she maintained that the election was not stolen. “I don’t know why you people in the media keep saying that, but that is absolutely false.”

Among those who saw the clip was Donald Trump.

The former president, who endorsed Brooks in the Alabama Senate GOP primary before ditching him as his campaign floundered, was pleased by Brooks’ performance during the exchange, according to two people close with the former president. Other top MAGA figures also heaped praise on Brooks, including Steve Bannon, who posted on Gettr Sunday that “Mo Brooks FINALLY GOT THE MEMO!!!!!!”

Brooks’ return to MAGA’s good graces has placed Trump in an awkward position. With the June 21 Republican Senate runoff fast approaching, Alabama presents an excellent opportunity for Trump to determine the outcome with a late endorsement — and thus burnish his win-loss record after a series of high-profile defeats.

But his choice isn’t an obvious one. Front-runner Katie Britt is the preferred candidate of Sen. Mitch McConnell, a Trump nemesis. Brooks is a McConnell adversary.

“I don’t see any upside to him getting in, honestly,” said Jon Gray, a Republican strategist in the state, noting that Trump could have made a difference in the race had he decided to campaign for a new candidate months ago. “I do think, though, there is this recollection of Mo having been with the president in the past, and his policies.”

Britt, the former chief of staff to retiring Sen. Richard Shelby,...

Trump saw Mo Brooks fighting against election fraud on Fox!

Brooks is the ACTUAL CONSERVATIVE IN THE RACE!!!

The lady is a McConnell hand-picked RINO. Sending her to the senate would be a massive mistake!

“Front-runner Katie Britt is the preferred candidate of Sen. Mitch McConnell, a Trump nemesis. Brooks is a McConnell adversary.”

Reason enough to back Mo Brooks. If Britt is going to be in McConnell’s back pocket, she will be a sure vote for more of the same D.C. political corruption and be at the beck and call of lobbyists.

I don’t know if Brooks would win even with Trump’s endorsement, but it would be the right thing for Trump to do.

It was stupid of him to remove his endorsement, when he’s supporting McCarthy.

Trump needs to re-endorse... Britt’s campaign mailings have included Trump’s name despite no endorsement of her. Clearly, both sides think his name is worth votes in this state.... and turnout is going to be a yuge factor.

Trump told us up front, a major factor of his endorsement was the position on election fraud.

I am firmly on the side of throwing any election to the Rats when the alternative is a Romney clone so yea, Trump should endorse any anti Mitchers because the alternative from perspective is tanking the election.

Trump should have endorsed Brooks sooner and he should do it now.

That shouldn’t be Trump’s main focus.

Britt cheered during the 2017 AL Senate Special Election when they called it for Doug Jone over Roy Moore. Whether one likes Moore or not doesn’t matter but you cannot tell me that Doug Jones was better than Roy Moore. Plus cheering for the Democrat to win is downright treacherous an disqualifying.

“Steve Bannon, who posted on Gettr Sunday that “Mo Brooks FINALLY GOT THE MEMO!!!!!!””

Really? Bannon probably doesn’t even know who Mo Brooks is.
Mo Brooks spoke at the Jan 6 rally. In fact he is defending a lawsuit that his Jan 6 speech incited the trespassing event. Mo was one of the few congressmen in Dec and Jan publicly speaking out about the steal and standing up for Trump.

Here is Mo in action talking about Jan 6 on MSNBC. Yes MSNBC. Mo is fearless and hands this interviewer his a$$.

We need more people like Mo in Congress. Unfortunately he has little money and Katie Britt is walking all over him with blanket ads spewing lies.

Brooks has been solidly Trump since 2017. He was initially opposed to Trump, as was I, because of Trumps moderate history. It did not take long to see that Trump governed extremely conservatively.

I’m voting Brooks (I have voted for him him every election here in North Alabama).

You are dead wrong, nothing else matters. Without election integrity, all is lost.

I have voted for Mo Brooks in the last 5 Republican primaries for the House and for Brooks in the general 5 times. My wife and I voted for Mo in the primary and will again in the runoff for senate. We never liked Shelby and won’t vote for a Shelby/McConnell stooge. We are likewise steamed at Trump for ditching Mo and would prefer he stay out of it now. I believe Durant’s endorsement and Mo’s steadfast reputation will carry him over the finish line without having Trump’s nod. Trump made his move. Baking Mo now will appear weak.

Britt has a lot of money behind her, but she won’t face Mo before the voters. I am a transplant here. What I can make of Alabamians tells me this won’t sit well with them.

God speed Mo.
