Canada is a super-sized plantation.

My understanding of Virginia law, at the time they joined the Union, a slave that worked for a lifetime, to no benefit for himself, was promised to be provided for when he could not work anymore.

That's basically what Canada offers Canadians like me. For a lifetime of work and never benefitting from my economic efforts, I am promised provision of healthcare and a pension when I can no longer work.

At least in Virginia, that was encoded into law. In Canada, the government can vote that away.

Essentially it’s the same in the USA, you have social security and medicare, neither cover everything, but it’s healthcare and a some money coming in.

I can understand the level of frustration people have with their governments, but to say people don’t benefit from their economic efforts, I don’t agree with that, I was a computer engineer and my wife was an Attorney, we lived a comfortable life from our economic efforts.

The reality is, the vast majority of people don’t benefit directly from their economic activities based on your definition, only people who work for themselves or own businesses would benefit directly from their economic activities.

My memories of Canada are mostly of 50+ yrs. ago & there seemed to be some advantages to visiting or living there. Now they should give you a bonus to cross their border instead of requiring a passport. Having not been there in many years, is this mostly the result of Trudeau or did some other things change as well??

Try to have about 10 ounces of gold buried somewhere on your plantation - the most robust asset class in human history. That’s your insurance policy when the roof caves in. You have to look after yourself. Depending on the kindness of strangers is bad policy. The great reset will be the great wipeout and it may come sooner than we think. I think Covid sped up our collapse timeline by about five years.

Anything the government puts into existence can also be eliminated by it.

When the descendants of slaves support communism, they are basically saying they want to return to the plantation, but they want the plantation owners to be the government.

The question to them is, once you no longer have a vote (slaves don't have a vote), do you think the government will be a better master than the original owners?

If so, why?

And do you think your new master will reward everyone equally (smart, hard workers rewarded just like the lazy, dumb ones)?

If so, why?

For blacks, it is about tearing down whites. They don’t think they can have lives, so they are exercising their second choice of ensuring that white people can’t have good lives.

They don’t think they can have lives

How do you reach that conclusion?

Perhaps they don't believe they can have lives (i.e., value) in a meritocratic society in which there is a free market demand based on personal contribution.

I think those who want to be taken care of by the government see that kind of existence as a life. Of course, they are mistaken as to the outcome of being taken care of by the government. They will be slaves...and miserable.

On the other hand, being overcome with anger at white people (because their leaders have fanned the flames of hatred) leads to an irrational desire to destroy regardless of what that means to themselves.

I’m just saying that is basically what it is. If you can’t win, you make sure somebody loses.

Having thought some more about your comment, I think I see your point.

If they are going to fail under any system, they may as well make everyone else just as miserable.

Is that what you are saying? If so, I agree that some, perhaps many, feel this way.

The progressive goal is for America to be Canada/UK

All progressive ideology is derivative of the UK/Canadian reality

I was listening to a treatise on China. The author said that there are indeed benefits to dictatorial assignments of money and influence when they get “it” right. But, they’ll stay with the same tools even when they go wrong. This is the overwhelming benefit of America. There’s always someone who is already working on the next big thing. If we allow failure then we move to the next and greater efficiency. Unfortunately, so many things are “too big to fail.” Thus, they continue long past their best-by. (The American auto companies during Obama come to mind. Had they been allowed to fail they could have shed the archaic union rules and become more efficient. Instead Obama institutionalize them by giving the unions a piece of the companies they are destroying. This is why there are no British owned manufacturers of any substance today.)

I note the US Constitution explicitly says our rights don't come from the the government.
