A Queen Anne resident says a newly-installed security system outside a CVS is barking orders at those who pass by, and is violating the right of people to stand on a public sidewalk.
He also believes the advanced security system was actively monitoring him at one point last Tuesday, and threatened to call the police on him as he waited for the bus.
Wesley Keller told FOX 13 that he has lived in this area since 2010. He says the large camera hanging above the sidewalk at Queen Anne Ave N and Mercer Street is a very recent addition.
He says the voice messages coming out of the camera system are too loud and invasive. He also says a machine shouldn't be dictating people's rights.
"What gives CVS the right to tell a citizen of Seattle where they can stand on a city piece of property?" said Keller.
-snip.
"CVS property ends right here. This is the city of Seattle sidewalk," Keller said, showing FOX 13 where he believes the public has a right to stand.
Keller also claims a security person talked to him through the cameras early Tuesday morning while he was waiting at the bus stop near the store.
"They told me I had blue jeans," Keller said. He then claims the voice from the loudspeaker went on to say he was wearing a backpack, and further described his appearance and clothing. "They said, ‘You there’. I was like, ‘Who there’?"
He went on to say that the voice of the person threatened to call police if he didn't leave.
"They also informed me that if I didn’t get on the next bus, they were going to call Seattle police and say I was prowling or loitering in front of CVS Drugs," said Keller.

Regards,
They should just put in a facial recognition system that welcomes customers by name as they come into the store.
They’ve already photocopied the driver’s license of everyone that has filled a prescription.
He is sure CVS doesnt own that sidewalk? The city may just have an easwment.
Decades ago, happened to walk by a car that told me to move.
Made a point of standing there until the alarm went off.
The mouth having fun on the camera should be fired. It is a person, right?
This is the city of Seattle sidewalk
till it needs repair or snow removal..
then they bill the property owner.
just saying.
Had that happen also...car loudly ordered me...”Get away from the car!”...I had not touched it.
I read that Seattle police are stretched so thin, people report burglaries and the police don't come. Their logic: the burglar has left, so what's the point?
Think they'll show up because a man is loitering on the street? The homeless loiter all over Seattle. It's part of the city's culture and protected by the D.A.
ah, Wesley’s husband chimed in, too.
Wait until this snowball finds a gasoline pump with a screen that looks and talks to him.
YOU! YES, YOU!!
STAND STILL LADDIE!!!

Name That Song!
I was attempting to load a mattress in the rain when the car next to me started that sh, uh stuff, including “I HAVE BEEN VIOLATED!” As I struggled with the mattress, I commented to a passerby, “Doesn’t that just make you want to throw a brick through the windshield?”.
It wasn’t until much later that I realized the passerby might not be a passerby, but the owner summoned by the alarm.
Perhaps he rethought his alarm system?
My Safeway north of Seattle has some sort of automated security announcement out in the parking lot. I don’t think it is triggered by any specific behavior, but is just a general announcement that security precautions are in place. Several stores in the area also have a piece of equipment out in the parking lot that looks kind of like a solar panel with a long pole topped by a beacon. I think that is also some sort of security device.
It’s coming. This is the whole purpose of the smash and grabs, riots with looting, and increase in crime. It’s how they get us to demand, once again, ‘security’ and ‘safety.’ Seattle, last I read already has facial recognition on city street corners. Implemented as part of his Covid powers.
How can you have any pudding if you don’t eat your meat
Makes one long for the days of, “The white zone is for the loading and unloading of passengers only. No parking.”
The red zone is for loading and unloading. There is no stopping in the White zone.
Don’t tell me which zone is for loading and unloading.
