How commonly are 5-pin trailer (electrical) connectors used? I'm looking at a combo 7-pin to 4-pin and 5-pin adapter plug on Amazon. (Two in one.) No surprise: It is a few bucks costlier than a simpler 7-pin to 4-pin adapter plug. But, I can't recall ever seeing a 5-pin in the flesh /in use. Are they really very uncommon? Does one particular type of trailer typically use the 5 pin connectors?
If very uncommon, I might as well save the few $$ and get a 7-pin to 4-pin (only) adapter.
(I may be in the market for a 2nd used trailer by July or so. My present utility trailer and a small boat trailer are 4-pin.)

Yes, that can help particularly when the existing wiring is thin, causing excess resistive loss. Good LED lights will maintain constant current to the LED(s) themselves, unless the feed is really bad. Incandescent elements self regulate somewhat, but not as well.
Course though, LED’s are more subject to failure from voltage spikes. (Please nobody start a EMP discussion here. Hahaha!)

Most folks around here don’t use any.. their utility trailer lights are what’s on the pickup towing them.
My opinion only - 7 pin on the vehicle, 50 cal ammo can with adapters (4 pin and 5 pin), a couple of screw closed carabiners, spare light bulbs and a couple of short chains.
Makes a decent emergency kit.
I think U-Haul uses the 5 pin flat.
My 2007 SUV uses the five pin. Works just fine, too.
So, I went ahead and ordered the combo adaptor. I should be set for any eventuality.
...Except there are also not only the 6-pin rounds, but evidently 5-pin round plugs and sockets are used in this app as well.

I once saw a guy holding a handheld red flasher outside his (driver’s side) window, in the ol’ “hand signal” positions.
Must not have been a manual tranny.
If you ever get a trailer with a strange plug, you can always just put on a plug that matches your vehicle connector.
Boat trailers with brakes on one axle often ha e 5 pin connectores.
