That is fundamentally it, control.
The push towards electronic vehicles is just one example.
If Leftists really cared about the environment, they wouldn't fly private jets, invest in companies that ostensibly harm the environment, own several mansions with enormous carbon footprints, or even purchase beach front housing.
That environmentalism all just blather for cover.
Once they force people into EV, three things happen:
- People can only drive limited distances in EV.
A car with a full tank and extra fuel in containers can drive a very long distance, thousands of miles. An EV can only do 200-400 miles, and you pay a huge premium for that 400 mile range.
- The source of the energy for the EVs is more controllable than gasoline for ICE vehicles.
Having a 55 gallon drum of gasoline on your property and auxillary fuel tanks on your car is easier and far more affordable than solar panels and battery farms, and you are STILL tied to your property in less than a 400 mile radius. Electric charging stations to Gas stations is like Electronic Currency to Paper Currency.
- The vehicle itself becomes easier to track and take control of.
When you plug the car in, if it is not currently trackable, it will be. Of course, they will cloak it in such an attractive way as to say you don't have to go through the payment process anymore, when you plug in, the MAC address of the car will check in (which will be tied, of course, to your vehicle registration) check your bank currency level, charge your battery and subtract automatically from your account. Rubes will be lining up for that.
Paranoid?
Perhaps.
But after what I have seen for the past 10-20 years in particular, there is nothing I will rule out anymore, most especially from the Left.

Regarding electric vehicles: The push is market driven with a political element.
Everybody and their brother is now producing electric vehicles and such cars are selling like hotcakes in China.
It is apparent that giants like GM and VW are not going to survive the onslaught. Ford may cease making cars and rely on the pickup for survival.

It would help if we had elected representatives fighting for our freedom, but they don’t. There is no party we can turn to to defend conservative values, beliefs or principles.
We have no “army” in the field.

Once they force people into EV
If you are not in the rust belt, you can keep an older ICE vehicle on the road indefinitely. They will continue to go up in price, but if you get one that is less desirable as a collectible (NOT a muscle car, most 4 doors), they don't have to be too expensive. Instead of the $100,000 two door 'cuda. Get a four door Dart.
If you don't want one that's TOO old (points, carburetors can be cranky in old age), even a '90s car will do, preferably a model with a known good drive train (e.g. GM 3.8l or 350ci LT-1, Toyota 2.5l) and with a large run. Here in Phoenix there are lots of old Chevy S-10s and Toyota Tacomas doing yeoman work. They are expensive for their age, but are relatively maintainable and have plenty of parts available. An older F-150 or Chevy/GMC 1500 even more so on both counts.
