Or hearing my father tell me how he and his pals could watch movies, shorts and cartoons at the local movie house all Saturday afternoon for a nickel each. Cripes! Cost me and my gang 35¢ Each to do the same.
Rogue One was pretty dang good for a Star Wars movie.
I’ve never seen even one second of any Star Wars movie. People have a hard time believing that, but it’s absolutely true.
I'm surmising that Hollywood will come out with a movie called "Right wing gun nut party crashers", starring Matthew McConoghey, as Beto O'Rourke.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture (Directors Edition Remastered) is being shown in theaters across the country for a limited run.
"Alien" also scared the eff out of me, and you are correct, no social media back then.
We talked about the movie face to face at the pool, school bus etc.

Star Wars was the first movie I remember seeing as a kid, watching it just before I turned six. Before that, I remember seeing Snow White, Davy Crockett, and Dersu Ursula during which I well asleep and woke up in the car driving home. Parents, don't start kids on Akira Kurosawa or hip art-house movies unless it is cheaper than a baby sitter. My brother was sick so my mom stayed home to watch over him while my dad and I went to see it. After the excitement died down a little (only a little) we saw it as a family.
My dad and I saw it in the UA 150 Cinedome in Seattle. The main theater was set up for the Dimension 150 process filmed movies and projected movies onto a 120' wide curving screen. The first movie I remember seeing in my life was on a super wide 120' wide movie screen. Imaging a kid not even six, a few inches past three feet tall, watching a movie like that among all the adults in a big crowded theater, and seeing people standing in aisles near the exits to watch it. It was the 1970s, people could still do that.
There will never be a movie that had the effect on society, culture, movie and television like Star Wars. For the next twenty years there was so much new to movies, television and science fiction even most of the bad stuff still had something good to it. Looking back on it, George Lucas should have had a few lifetime achievement awards per decade for all he did for the motion picture industry.
(Forget Alien, after seeing Aliens it scared me so bad I slept in my parents room that night, "That can't be that's inside the room...")
Friends of what?
My vanity about Star Wars, is that it was shown in a tri-plex at a local mall ,while our mothers were shopping, me and my best friend saw "Star Wars".
One week later, the moms decided to go shopping and gave us money, to see a movie, we bought $1.00 matinee tickets to the Roger Moore, James Bond movie, "The Spy Who Loved Me", as we were waiting for the movie to start, we decided to sneak into the theater where we could see "Star Wars" for the second time.
I do have to say Carly Simon's song on the radio, "The Spy Who Loved Me" is the best Bond opening song.
He had no choice, as even he gets boarded sometimes.
What does “Han shot first” mean?

I remember seeing Star Wars and Close Encounters with my dad and my older brother around the same time. In the theatre. I was 10 and my brother was 13. I loved Star Wars. My brother and dad liked Close Encounters better.
Then Superman came out and I was all about that.
In the bar. Han shot the bounty hunter first. Lucas tried to revise it that he didn’t. Fail.
My father said he was in a bar with a TV the day of the moon landing and they had a Mets game on. He ordered a beer and said “what the hell is wrong with you? We’re puttin a fking man on the moon”. He changed the channel and everybody in the bar suddenly couldn’t take their eyes off the TV.
Try telling them you lived the first 30 years of your life without a cellphone. Or just having 2, 4 and 7 on a grainy, tiny black and white screen.

No TV remote. Transistor radios. Smoking sections on airplanes. Bell bottom jeans. No one said Christmas was racist. It was a different world.
