MEDFORD, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin couple say they killed a bear that attacked them inside their home after they spotted it eating from their bird feeder.
The Taylor County Sheriff’s office said the attack happened around 11 p.m. Friday at a home near Medford in north-central Wisconsin. The couple told authorities that the bear charged through a window after they yelled at it to go away.

A black dead bear, too
The bear attacked the humans because it associated their home with a FOOD source. That is why all the parks have signs:
DO NOT FEED THE BEARS.
A FED BEAR IS A DEAD BEAR
A bear that comes around human habitation for what ever reason.
Should be dealt with appropriately
Agreed, once a bear does not fear humans, it becomes very dangerous.
And get some bear claws as well. “You can skin a Griz?”

From the great movie “Jeremiah Johnson”.
I doubt they get polar bears that far south. Was it named for an albino black bear?
When I was a kid I enjoyed Yogi Bear cartoons. The first time I went backpacking, with a couple of friends, we went to Yosemite National Park and hiked down to Pate Valley. Just when we had fixed supper a bear showed up. You can’t really try to run away from them so we just had to watch as the bear explored our food supply. During the night bears destroyed most of our food (too many other people had camped there so none of the trees had branches that could be used to hang the food from). We had planned a 7 or 8 day hike and had to cut it back to 3. Overall still a fun trip but gave me a different perspective on bears. Also made me realize that the Second Amendment is not about arming bears.
“White Bear Lake got its name from a Sioux Indian legend about a Sioux hunter who killed a white bear on Manitou Island and whose spirit lives on Manitou Island still. Manitou Days is a celebration in honor of the white bear’s spirit. Nine Indian mounds were located on the Northwest shores of the lake.”
Thanks. Either the Weather Channel or Accuweather had a photo of White Bear Lake this morning so I wondered where the name came from.
