I remember seeing that film with my GF at the time. Actually we left after the first 20-30 minutes. I never much cared for the soundtrack either. Seemed hokey — grated on my senses. But I’m not much into pop or fluffy music. Progressive rock and romantic classical was generally my thing.

An absolutely wonderful article. So very glad you posted it. I can still remember sitting in the movie theater when this first played and being electrified by both the movie and the music.
I think the Hall and Oates parody is the one I was thinking of. It was on SCTV, which the two women in the video are: Andrea Martin and the actress who played Kevin’s mom in the Home Alone movies. I remember it was titled “Chariots of Eggs.”
Carl Sagan used a lot of Vangelis in ‘Cosmos’. Never was a fan. I prefer Art Bell’s use of Giorgio Moroder.
I have the movie in my permanent collection and watched it just last week. Yes, the music is wonderful and does well with the movie. What does intrigue me is the well-told history in the screenplay, done by excellent actors! All-in-all, a movie that still fascinates and evokes.
“L’Enfant” appeared in the movie “The Year of Living Dangerously”, with Sigourney Weaver walking through a Jakarta market in the rain.
This piece by Vangelis also appeared in “Chariots”, at the end of an early race scene:

Vangelis TRANSFORMED the movie Blade Runner from just another sci-fi flick into a classic.
WTF are they talking about?
