All I think of with them is both couples divorced and there went the group and the way to make your living.
ABBA tribute band playing here locally in September.
I not a pop fan, but they had great harmonies.
I don’t want high-def of them after they got old! What’s the point? 🙂
I always thought this was a better song than “Dancing Queen.”
They could not even speak English at the time.
They were reading phonetically spelled cards
We watched ‘Mamma Mia!’ recently. I didn’t expect to like it - I’m not a fan of musicals - but it was fun.
I lived six years in Abha Saudi Arabia. Occasionally a new business would open and instead of “ABHA” in the places’ sign it would read “ABBA.” Somebody just wasn’t paying attention.
It goes without saying that Agnetha & Frida were hot, and their voices had an outstanding blend. Also underappreciated were Bjorn’s & Benny’s songwriting & arranging. Their songs weren’t just “sugar pop,” but classics that sold by the scores of millions and remain in worldwide play nearly a half century later.
Benny and Bjorn also wrote the music to Chess (very underrated musical). One Night in Bangkok was everywhere!

needs more cowbell...
I love the music, they were one of the first live groups I saw in the 70s, them at the Milwaukee Auditorium. That said, I do not fine the video appealing, prefer the music.
Yeah. Sure thing.
I'm a boomer and have made fun of Abba since the 1970s. The ultimate Eurovision group (that's not a compliment).
They are the Ikea of music. Pretty on the outside, nothing on the inside. Very "acceptable" -- and Rock is not supposed to be "acceptable".
Abba is to music what Swedish Meatballs on Mashed Potatoes is to food. Edible. Filling. But hardly something to expand your palette. Shoot, the bloody Bee Gees are edgier than Abba!
I know there are a lot of people who like Abba to this day, including my 89 year-old mother (and, truth be told, if I hear them in the background, I won't complain as long as they stay in the background). God bless those people. Everybody is entitled to their musical preferences.
But the ultimate 70's group?
That is a massive stretch, at the very least.
I don’t like a lot of ‘70’s music—as anyone who has read my music posts will know—but I do like several of ABBA’s songs. One of my favorites is “Fernando,” which refers to an unnamed war that could be anything from the Pueblo Revolt of 1680 to the rebellion against the Mexican Empire in the 1860’s.
I thought it was about a future war between the US and Mexico.
Call BS on this without proof.
Ah yeah! The first time I heard Anthem I was blown away.
