Lawyers for a Fed-Ex worker who was badly burned in an explosion when a deputy tasered him while he was pumping gas say he is being 'vilified' by cops who suggested he was armed when the 26-year-old had 'never had a gun or brandished a gun.'
The Osceola County Sheriff's Office has yet to produce a charge against 26-year-old Jean Barreto, who was tackled from behind, allegedly without warning, during the botched arrest.
'I’ve never seen law enforcement behaving this way in Central Florida and doing these types of things for anything from no offense to misdemeanor offenses,' said Mark NeJame, who with Albert Yonfa represent Barreto and his family.
'Never had a gun that day. Never brandished a gun. But yet is being vilified while he’s laying pretty much skinless in a hospital bed fighting for his life,' NeJame told reporters during a Wednesday presser.
A photo shared by the attorneys with reporters shows Barreto's father praying at his son's bedside, which Yonfa said he does everyday.
Barreto, 26, who had been on his way home a peaceful motorbike memorial ride in Osceola County, suffered third-degree burns to more than 75% of his body as a result of the incident, which transpired at an Orange County Wawa on February 27.
He has been in an Orlando hospital ever since, where his lawyers say he has undergone dozens of surgeries as he barely clings life.
During the event, NeJame challenged the Osceola County Sheriff's Office to prove previous assertions that deputies had followed Barretto to the gas station after responding to a call about a group of bikers allegedly brandishing guns.

I believe all officers and county deputies must be CLEET certified.
if he wins his suit more will be empowered to keep playing the stupid games and resisting arrest looking for a big payday.
Don’t take the Lord’s Name in vain!
There is no reason under the sun for using God’s name in vain. It goes through me like a hot knife. Glad I didn’t see it. Thanks Morgana....
Note that most gas pumps (except in certain parts of the country or various chain stations) do not have warnings against cell phone use due to gas vapors. The ones that do are because of CYA.
Were this true and the OCSD could prove it then the kid would be up on charges. So far as I can tell he was just a handy target for some frustrated monkeys who wanted to hurt someone.
Like I said cell phones used to be considered not intrinsically safe. They still might be. Or not.
Supposed to put your gas cans on the ground when you’re fueling them up too. I see very few people doing that so I don’t know what to tell you other than people like to play with fire.
“Moral of the story, don’t run from the cops and don’t resist arrest and you won’t get burnt to a crisp.”
Not really. The police no longer give a rats ass about the public they supposedly serve. Police have gone completely rouge and will terrorize anyone just for fun or to “beef up” their arrest counts.
Look at the Federal “Law” enforcement now. They are just tools of the commies.
Cops now-a-days just want to instill fear in the citizenry ... as long as the citizens are normal everyday working middle class.
“the fact that he worked for FedEx doesn’t really mean much.”
Except he’s with somebody who had a background check and passed it, probably passed the Wiz Quiz too. Clean driving record, no priors...
Amen! Drop F bombs if you must (that is simply vulgar bad manners), but never blaspheme the Lords Holy Name!
O Lord Jesus Christ, who said: Ask and ye shall receive, seek, and ye shall find, knock, and it shall be opened unto you; mercifully attend to our supplications, and grant us the gift of Thy divine charity, that we may ever love Thee with our whole heart and with all our words and deeds, and may never cease from praising Thee.
Make us, O Lord, to have a perpetual fear and love of Thy holy Name, for Thou never failest to help and govern those whom Thou dost bring up in Thy steadfast fear and love; who livest and reignest for ever and ever. Amen.
And, and, they are all lower IQ guys, you can’t get a job with the PD otherwise, per SOP.
I didn’t see anything in the article saying he drove for FedEx, only that he worked for them. He could have been a guy who just throws stuff onto a conveyor belt.
According to the local news story, the police are recommending charging the victim with fleeing and eluding the police and resisting arrest.
Law Enforcement has a hired thugs for thousands of years.
In the long run it seems to have worked.
Lol, that brings back memories from when SNL was funny.
You cannot ignite gas that is contained in a sealed hose or pump(No air space) with a taser. There is no air for the fuel air equation. You can ignite spilled fuel or an an open fuel container such as the tank on the bike.
Exactly. Not likely a dead beat gang banger.
Since when is it a crime to ride bikes with friends?
Dolt cop.
Poor guy. He will never be the same if he lives.

Yep, too bad the F word is now acceptable language in today’s society.......so disgusting and so sad.
Lets go back to Midnight Cowboy for starting to push that.
By the way I have been watching James Bond movies since I was 7 and saw the very first one. In all the time those movies have been with us the only curse words I ever heard were damn and hell. Well I Craig’s last film, No Time To Die, I heard Bond and M use the F word, so even Bond has now become coarse.
Hard to believe I have lived to see 60 years worth of Bond movies, Unreal!
