I live in Mayberry, so this is very sad news. RIP.

***Mayberry, it’s not a place, it’s a state of mind.***

Ever since I learned that Andy Griffith was schtupping the woman who played his girlfriend behind the scenes (and while he was married) and since I watched him whoring for ObamaCare while it was being debated I've never seen that bull$hit show in the same way.

He was just another millionaire showbiz Marxist. So anything that happened on that show means nothing to me.

Charlene Darling sings "There is a Time" for Andy

Made Mr. Darling cry. Almost made me cry too. Dang, I'm getting old. Rest in peace Maggie.

Also, I am told his personality was much more like the character he played in ‘A Face in the Crowd’ - Larry “Lonesome” Rhodes.

I don’t remember her on the Andy Griffith Show. I do recall seeing her on one of my other favorites, Green Acres, and maybe Pettitcoat Junction too.
Maggie’s husband, Gus Mancuso died last January 2022, after having Alzheimers for many years. He was a jazz musician.

That’s why I tend not to want to know about performers themselves. They are not generally an admirable bunch. I like a character or a performance and settle for that. Otherwise I wouldn’t see much TV or movies or listen to much music. I knew about Andy Griffith’s dalliances and his general rottenness as a human being. (There is at least one episode in which Andy’s hand is bandaged. It is never mentioned in the show. It turned out that Griffith, in a rage, had punched a hole in a wall.) I like Andy Taylor the character but I wouldn’t have liked Andy Griffith the person.

Andy Griffith Show is the epitome of TV, childhood and all that is good and wonderful in America and home. No matter how old I get I’ll always be friends in my mind with the characters on that show. And the portrayal of life in simpler times had a nostalgic quality all to its own.

Yes,it's absolutely true that 99% of showbiz stars are,in fact, deplorable people. DeNiro, for example, has always played filthy despicable individuals and is,in real life, despicable. So there's no deception involved. Griffith was utterly phony in every way. Big difference...IMO.

When our kids were young we quit network tv which was becoming a filthy swamp. We got dvds of classic tv shows. Andy was one of our favorites.
