The lawyer for WNBA star Brittney Griner said Friday her pre-trial detention in Russia has been extended by one month.
Alexander Boykov told The Associated Press he believed the relatively short extension of the detention indicated the case would come to trial soon. She has been in detention for nearly three months.
She appeared for the brief hearing handcuffed, her dreadlocks covered in a red hoodie and her face held low.
Boykov said “We did not receive any complaints about the detention conditions from our client.”

Good. The Russian criminals are afraid of her.
She was stupid and clueless. But this would never have happened if the Ukraine situation wasn’t on. It’s just a political football.
You know really, WGAS? Don’t do the crime and you won’t have to do the time. My sympathy for this woman is zero.
Sure they are.
Indeed. Life is tough. It's even tougher when you're stupid.
Oh yes. She’s not very bulky but she has impressive height and reach. She’s quick and dirty too, most likley.
Not to mention she just is scary looking to start with.
Why should Griner get special treatment? She knew she was breaking the drug laws of Russia and did it anyway.
Can you say “Midnight Express” anybody? ? ?

She has royal blood.
The evil Russkies refuse to bow to their masters.
I think it’s more likely that she is afraid of the guards and doesn’t want to anger them. If her treatment is OK so far she may be wise to not complain. She can tell the story once she is safely back in the US.

But new Russia is showing the world that they are the next North Korea. Fine. They want to be an isolated nation that no one wants to deal with. They can have fun with their nukes. It's all what they have (and vodka).
I see a “But” in your comment.
When the story first broke, I thought I saw that she made lots more money playing in Russia than she did in the WNBA. Yet the Russian job was portrayed something she did in the ‘off-season’. Logically wouldn’t her WNBA job be something she did in the Russian ‘off-season’.
In any case, she was and is no stranger to Russia and had to be aware of the risks of bringing in any kind of illegal drugs into the country.
“afraid of the guards and doesn’t want to anger them.”
Good decision on her part.
Agree.
I heard that DOJ is stipulating an exchange for Victor Bout.
Sorry, you’re wrong in all your comment.
