I was mistaken and others corrected me. Morgan was the flight controller.
got it
yep, understood
Thanks. Lots of famous actors and actresses in that movie. Spencer Tracy is the police chief who goes crazy at the end, sort of like Vicky White but with less fatal consequences.
Well, he only tried to run off with the money, not with a convict. You’re right about the cast — just about every big-name comedian alive at the time, including Buster Keaton, Rochester, and the Three Stooges.
He had just been released from the loony bin. He told the director he wasn't sure if he was ready to work again. The director said “If you don't work now - you never will.”
Winters said that scene where he destroys the gas station was very cathartic for him!
Ethel Merman plays the ultimate mother-in-law from hell.
I’ll bet it was. I was only 7 or 8 the first time I saw IAMMMMW, and I remember feeling sorry for the two gas-station guys getting their new place wrecked like that.
One of my favorite scenes in the whole movie is at the end, when Ethel Merman slips on the banana peel in the hospital ward. I still laugh at that.

Landing a single engine Cessna is not difficult. The wings level except for turns, maintain air speed, gradually drop altitude, land with main gear touching the runway first, cut power, and gradually apply breaks, and it’s done.
This guy was scared because he didn’t know how easy it would be. Just stay calm and listen to air traffic control.
One of the things I like about what the passenger did...the Caravan they were in apparently had a Garmin G1000 instrument panel, which instead of dials, has two big LCD screens that show all the pertinent info like attitude, airspeed, altitude, engine parameters, and also integrates the radios. It’s easy to read the simple stuff but it’s intimidating as hell if you don’t understand it. He flat-out told the controller “NO” when the controller asked him to switch frequencies to approach from Fort Pierce tower, he wasn’t even going to try to play with all the buttons. That’s smart. He had his priorities straight...aviate, navigate, communicate.
So the controller had an equally bright idea...just give the guy a phone number to call. He was close enough to the coast that cellphone reception would be solid so why not use that if he can’t change radio frequencies? I just hope he didn’t get a ticket for using a mobile device while in a moving vehicle. :)
