First Time Visit To New York City Recommend Things to See and Do
Me | 5/8/2022 | Me

Wife and I are planning a weeks trip to NYC, I’ve never been so I’m looking for recommendations on things to see or do. We’re planning on at least 1 broadway show and the MOMA but if you know of a cool thing or something really interesting I’d love to hear your suggestion, thanks in advance.

My folks experienced their youth there. I’m guessing they’d say first, pizza, pretzels and pastrami.
Maybe Central Park and Broadway — I heard a lot about those things, but...it’s not the 60’s anymore.
Tiffany’s?

I get the words of caution and I appreciate them but this is a once in a lifetime thing, I’ll never get another chance to see the Big Apple.

YOU MUST BE OUT OF YOUR MIND!

Make sure you’ve settled your affairs before you embark on your final adventure.

But if you insist, first thing, take the subway to Broadway and 125th St. (West side), and go for a stroll. Regardless of your race, creed, or color, it will save you a fortune on hotel costs, food, drink, theater tickets, EVERYTHING!

A horse drawn carriage thru Central Park is nice. I loved the Empire State Building

Eat out. The food is great

My philosophy regarding traveling has been.

Travel to those places where your friends are.

Why should I spend my conservative dollars at a place that totally disagrees with me.

We toured the Yorktown in Charleston, it’ll be on the list but down that list a bit.

Visit the Old Montefiore Cemetery in Queens and pray at the Ohel Chabad Lubavitch (grave of Rabbi Menachem Schneerson) that you and everyone you know should resist the temptation to abandon the instructions of Judaeo-Christian civilization, and should escape NYC unscathed.

- Frick Collection (celebrate a really rich dude’s really fabulous art collection and house)
- McSorley’s Ale House (celebrate cheap beer)
- Empire State Building (celebrate America!)
- PJ Clarke’s (get the steak tartare)
- Central Park (just don’t get mugged in deBlasio’s NYC)

I’ve also enjoyed but don’t necessarily recommend:
- Taxi racing (where you take separate taxis and pay the drivers extra to get there first)
- Times Square trannie walk (play “who’s got the junk?”)
- Madison Ave pretension game (you go into the boutique shops, try on everything, then walk out in disgust that it cost so little)
- Doorman outbidding game (pay doormen more than the other guy to make fun of his wife who is really, really ridiculous)

I kinda but don’t really miss NYC... :)

Hummmmm, I can think of great sites to see, but in light of the off-the-charts crime wave taking place there you may want to reconsider. But, if you’re set, then you’ll need your “situational awareness” on 24/7 when on the streets—especially with cold-cocks taking place at any time and place. Also, you may want to hire a 6’ 5” + security monster to oversee your outside visits since NY is so anti CCW and you’ll have little chance to protect your wife, let alone yourself—and life has become rather cheap in the Big Apple. Good luck.

Washington Square Park. Walk around there and the nearby NYU area. Day or night.

Even at night, it was safe Giuliani and Bloomberg. I was there one summer night with a friend, about 11 p.m. Large crowd, all sorts of street performers. One guy had a grand piano! that he played in the park.

Farther south is the Wall Street area. You might want to visit the bull statue, or tour the NY Stock Exchange.

Or go up the Empire State Building.

Both the Empire State Building and Stock Exchange require tickets. You might even have to buy them in advance.

Central Park is worth seeing. Don't go too far north, that's closer to the bad areas. I don't know if they still have horse carriage rides. The PETA people have been trying to shut them down.
