Abortion could upend midterms, but only if young people vote

WASHINGTON — Last week’s leaked draft opinion that would overturn the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade ruling has potential impacts that reach beyond the courts and abortion laws. It was a bomb set off in the thick of 2022’s midterm campaign. And one doesn’t have to look hard to see how it could impact November’s vote, particularly in one important age demographic for Democrats, young voters.

Since the news broke this week, there has steady stream of reporting on polling data showing that most Americans favor keeping abortion legal. That’s true and the numbers have been stable for some time.

Recent data from the Pew Research Center, show that 61 percent of Americans want to keep abortion legal with only some exceptions and only eight percent of Americans want abortion to be completely illegal. But the strength of those opinions varies dramatically by age group.

Among the youngest group of voters, those 18- to 29-years-old, three quarters say abortion should be legal with only some exceptions, while 25 percent say it should be mostly illegal with only some allowances.

With older voters, those 65-or-older, only 54 percent believe abortion should be legal with only some exceptions, while 44 percent believe it should be mostly illegal.

That’s a 20-point gap on the question of legality, and that matters at election time because those groups of voters do not turn out in the same numbers. Voters 65-or-older are one of the most consistent voter groups in the United States. They tend to go to the polls in large numbers for all sorts of elections – from presidential races to local city council votes.

I'm not sure I agree with these stats on young people.

I agree that collage age women account for the highest amount of abortions but a lot of young people are also more pro life than before.

After seeing the damage done by the dems in just over a year, any young person that votes for them is an idiot. And I say that coming from a nation that is half idiots.

ANd the vast majority of Americans opposed homo marriage. So much so, that Congress passed a law against it. Yet we still got it by SCOTUS decree and the MSM told us to shut up, bigots!

But now that roe might get overturned, the MSM is out in force encouraging mass protests if not more.

Deep State is desperate.

Note to young Dems: If Deep State gets away with blackmailing you into voting for them, they’ll keep doing it.

If you want choice, you need our republic back.

Vote MAGA.

Or prepare to live on your knees.

I've posted elsewhere, abortion is an "ok, boomer" thing. Millenials and GenZers are more interested in getting a newer higher paying telecommuting job, avoiding inflation, and not getting hacked on FB.

Indeed, for the kidz who care about race relations (which is most of them), the eugenicist dimension of abortion trumps the "reproductive rights" angle.

I bet most protesters under 40 were given a free lunch and 4 loose joints by some ancient NOW apparatchik to act like Joy Behar for an afternoon.

The old saying went, “If you’re a Republican at age 20 you don’t have a heart, if you’re a Democrat at age 30, you don’t have a head.”

However, the DEMONocRATS with their Obama-boosters have become so virulent and deadly, even bleeding hearts would go over to the Republicans.

I guess the old saying needs to change to somethings like, “if you’re a Democrat, you don’t have a heart or a head.”

I think it’s going to take a lot of toddlers voting too. The ones who voted in 2020.

The movement toward post birth murder for baby parts by the Democrats really planted the flag.
